Fulton has produced marine and utility trailer hardware for more than a century, and its jacks, winches and couplers are a standard for light and medium-duty trailering. The XLT and F2 series cover swivel and fixed jacks, hand and powered winches from 1,500 to 3,200 pounds, and couplers built to keep working in wet, salty conditions.
With more than a hundred years of production behind it, Fulton has become the reference point for light and medium-duty trailer hardware, particularly on the marine side. That environment is the toughest test a trailer component faces. A boat trailer is reversed into fresh or salt water on every launch and left to sit wet, which finds every weakness in plating, sealing and material choice. Fulton's stated position is that the brand performs best when the weather is at its worst, and its product engineering reflects that. It sits within the Horizon Global towing group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Bulldog, Tekonsha and Wesbar.
Marine and utility jacks anchor the line. The XLT Series marine jack uses a bolt-through swivel mount built from three-dimensionally formed heavy-gauge steel stampings with a proprietary bushing material, a combination chosen to minimise deflection under tongue load while keeping the swivel action working after years of exposure. The F2 Series takes corrosion resistance further as the industry's only extruded aluminium marine jack with an anodised finish, which removes the rust problem at its source rather than coating over it. The wider trailer jack range covers topwind, sidewind and drop-leg configurations.
Trailer winches pull boats onto bunks and rollers. XLT Series winches use efficient gear ratios, full-length drum bearings, oil-impregnated shaft bushings and a Comfort Grip handle that makes the last few turns under load bearable, in 1,500 and 1,800 pound capacities. F2 Series winches use an enclosed frame for a cleaner look and added protection, in 1,600, 2,000 and 3,200 pound models, including two-speed options that trade line speed for cranking effort.
Couplers complete the range, including A-frame couplers matched to common tongue sizes and load ratings, serving boat owners, utility trailer users and trailer manufacturers.

This manual covers three winch models: 1,000 lb., 1,500 lb., and 2,500 lb. capacity. The exact capacity of your winch is stamped or marked on the product itself. Never exceed the maximum rated capacity marked on your specific winch. If you are uncertain of the capacity, contact Cequent Performance Products at 1-800-632-3290 or www.cequentgroup.com.
This winch is designed for manual operation only. The load rating is based on an intermittent duty cycle. Do not attempt to power or motorize this winch.
No. Do not use this winch to move humans. This winch is designed only for lifting and lowering inanimate loads.
No. Winches are not designed to secure boats to trailers for towing. You must use boat-specific tie-down straps or securing equipment designed for that purpose.
Only winches with a minimum hub diameter of 1 3/4" can accommodate steel cable. If your winch has a smaller hub diameter, you must use rope instead.
Yes. This winch can be used with either steel cable or rope, depending on your hub diameter. For steel cable, the hub must have a minimum diameter of 1 3/4". Rope can be used on any winch model. The cable or rope wrapping direction differs by model: on 2,500 lb. winches, cable wraps beneath the drum; on 1,000 lb. and 1,500 lb. winches, cable wraps over the top of the drum.
Mounting hardware is not supplied with the winch. You must provide three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts, flat washers, and lock nuts. The length of the mounting bolts will vary depending on your application. The mounting stand must be capable of supporting at least five times the rated capacity of the winch, and the mounting surface must be equal to or greater than the footprint of the winch frame.
Before each use, perform these checks: (1) Inspect the rope or cable and replace it if damaged. (2) Check mounting hardware for proper torque and re-torque if necessary. (3) Ensure gears, ratchet pivot points, and shaft bushings are lubricated with thin oil or grease.
Attaching a rope requires no bolts, nuts, or clamps. The rope must weave through the drum outer wall and be secured beneath itself as shown in the illustration in the manual. Do not remove the drum to install the rope.
Pass the cable from the inside of the drum through one of the dimpled holes in the outer plate. Loop the cable around the drum bearing, under itself, and leave 1" of cable extending past the clamp location. Torque the clamp nuts to approximately 2 ft-lbs. Do not remove the drum to install the cable.
Assemble the handle onto the flatted input shaft end. Tighten the 1/2"-13 locknut against the handle and torque to 22-25 ft-lbs. Do not over torque. Do not adjust the double locknuts on the long end of the input shaft.
When bolting the winch down, use three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts, flat washers, and lock nuts and torque to 28-30 ft-lbs.
Torque the cable clamp nuts to approximately 2 ft-lbs.
Tighten the 1/2"-13 locknut against the handle and torque to 22-25 ft-lbs. Do not over torque.
Winches require a maximum of 45 lbs of handle force to pull their rated load. If you cannot crank the winch with one hand, you are potentially overloading the winch. Excessive force in turning the winch handle may indicate overload.
A loud clicking sound from the ratchet must be heard when lifting the load. If a loud clicking sound is not heard, do not use the winch and replace ratchet components immediately.
Always maintain a minimum of three (3) complete wraps of cable or rope on the drum.
Assure there is adequate safety factor of at least 3 times the maximum load for all components used. This means if you are lifting a 1,000 lb. load, all cables, attachments, and hardware must be rated for at least 3,000 lbs.
No. Never leave a weight supported from the winch while the winch is unattended, as another person may attempt to operate the winch, thereby creating an unsafe condition.
Never release the crank handle unless the ratchet pawl is fully engaged and the load is supported. Always ensure the ratchet is making a loud clicking sound when lifting, which indicates the pawl is properly engaged.
Never stand alongside the winch cable or rope or guide the cable or rope with your hands. Never operate with slippery, wet, or oily hands and always maintain a firm grip on the winch handle. Do not attempt to stop a winch by grabbing the handle while in motion. Always inspect the cable and its attachment before each use to make sure they are not damaged. Never use worn, kinked, or frayed cable.
If the cable or attachment breaks, the cable will whip violently, causing property damage, serious bodily injury, and/or death. This is why it is critical to always inspect the cable and its attachment before each use and never use worn, kinked, or frayed cable.
Do not get oil or grease on the friction discs. This could allow the load to slip or fall. The friction discs must be kept free of grease or oil at all times.
The following procedures should be performed at least annually: (1) Do not get oil or grease on the friction discs. (2) Apply a drop or two of #30 weight engine oil to each bushing I.D. and to the ratchet pawl pivot points. Maintain a thin layer of marine grease on the gear teeth and shaft threads. Additionally, periodically check mounting hardware for proper torque and tighten if necessary.
Apply #30 weight engine oil to each bushing I.D. and to the ratchet pawl pivot points. Maintain a thin layer of marine grease on the gear teeth and shaft threads. Gears, ratchet pivot points, and shaft bushings must be kept lubricated with a thin oil or grease.
The following parts must be kept lubricated: (1) Each bushing I.D. — apply #30 weight engine oil. (2) Ratchet pawl pivot points — apply #30 weight engine oil. (3) Gear teeth — maintain a thin layer of marine grease. (4) Shaft threads — maintain a thin layer of marine grease. Do not apply oil or grease to the friction discs.
Check the final installation and make sure the winch is secure to the mounting structure. Verify that the mounting surface is equal to or greater than the footprint of the winch frame, and that the mounting stand is capable of supporting at least five times the rated capacity of the winch.
Periodically check mounting hardware for proper torque and tighten if necessary. This should be done before each use and at least annually as part of regular maintenance.
This manual covers 1,000 lb., 1,500 lb., and 2,500 lb. capacity winches. Check the capacity marked on your winch. The mounting stand must support at least 5 times the winch capacity, and the mounting surface must be equal to or larger than the winch frame footprint. For steel cable, the hub diameter must be at least 1 3/4".
You must supply three grade 5, 3/8" diameter bolts, flat washers, and lock nuts. Bolt length varies by application. The mounting stand must support at least 5 times the winch capacity.
The manual does not specify whether drilling is required. This depends on your mounting surface and stand. Consult the mounting stand instructions or a qualified installer.
Mounting bolts: 28-30 ft-lbs. Cable clamp nuts: approximately 2 ft-lbs. Handle locknut (1/2"-13): 22-25 ft-lbs. Check mounting hardware periodically and re-torque if necessary.
Maximum handle force is 45 lbs to pull the rated load. If you cannot crank with one hand, the winch is overloaded. A loud clicking sound from the ratchet must be heard when lifting.
No. This winch is for manual operation only and is designed to lift inanimate loads only. Do not use it to move humans.
At least annually: apply #30 weight engine oil to bushings and ratchet pivot points; maintain marine grease on gear teeth and shaft threads. Do not oil or grease friction discs. Check mounting hardware torque before each use and re-torque if necessary. Inspect cable or rope and replace if damaged.
A loud clicking sound from the ratchet must be heard when lifting the load. If you do not hear a loud clicking sound, do not use the winch and replace ratchet components immediately. The ratchet pawl may be damaged or disengaged.
Excessive force in turning the winch handle may indicate overload. Winches require a maximum of 45 lbs of handle force to pull their rated load. If you cannot crank the winch with one hand, you are potentially overloading the winch. Reduce the load or verify that you are not exceeding the maximum rated capacity marked on the winch.
Oil or grease on the friction discs could allow the load to slip or fall. Ensure the friction discs are kept free of grease or oil. Also verify that the ratchet pawl is fully engaged (you should hear a loud clicking sound when lifting) and that the load is properly supported. Never release the crank handle unless the ratchet pawl is fully engaged and the load is supported.
