Your trailer takes plenty of wear and tear on the road without the scuffs, scratches and dents made by loose debris. The truth, however, is that this debris can quickly become a bombardment of damage that is otherwise easily preventable. The LUVERNE Textured Rubber Tow Guard is a simple trailer hitch attachment that provides a reliable barrier between your tow vehicle and trailer. The Tow Guard acts very much like a set of heavy-duty mud flaps. Only instead of merely covering your rear tires, it serves as a full-width wall at the rear of the vehicle, providing superior protection for the trailer. Also, unlike most mud flaps that are designed for permanent installation, the Tow Guard can conveniently be installed or removed as necessary, using a heavy-duty clamp system. This Tow Guard model attaches to virtually any 2" to 3" ball mount shank and maintains full use of your trailer hitch and any electrical components. The LUVERNE Tow Guard is constructed with a strong steel frame and heavy-duty recycled rubber flaps. The steel frame is covered in a highly durable textured black powder coat finish to protect it against scratches, chipping and rust, and the rubber flaps are made from a tough 3/8" thick textured rubber. Installing the Textured Rubber Tow Guard is as simple as bolting it onto a ball mount and mounting it on your receiver hitch. It attaches to the ball mount shank with a clamp mechanism and features cutouts in the steel frame for dual exhaust and for the trailer wiring connection. The Tow Guard is available in a universal width of 72" to fit most full-size pickups and SUVs and in two flap length options, including 15" and 20". When selecting the right length for your vehicle, we recommend a minimum gap of 4" when loaded and a maximum gap of 7" when unloaded. The Tow Guard comes fully factory-assembled and can easily be trimmed for a fully custom fit.

LUVERNE has manufactured truck accessories in the United States since 1963, specialising in grille guards, running boards, side steps and mud guards for pickups, commercial vans and SUVs. Products are built primarily from stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel, with model-specific mounting kits that use existing frame locations for a bolt-on installation.
LUVERNE has been manufacturing automotive accessories in the United States since 1963, and six decades of continuous production have made it a nationally recognised name in the truck accessory market. Now a Lippert brand, it concentrates on a defined set of products rather than spreading across the whole aftermarket: front-end protection, step access and spray protection for pickup trucks, commercial vans and sport utility vehicles.
Step products are the largest part of the catalog and the range is unusually deep, because the right step depends on the vehicle's ride height, the width of the rocker panel and how often people get in and out. The O-Mega II six-inch oval steps give a wide, flat standing surface in polished stainless or black powder coat, while the Regal 7 seven-inch oval steps go wider still for full-size crew cabs and lifted trucks. The broader running board and side bar range covers round tube, oval and boxed profiles across cab configurations, with treads positioned at the door openings where they are used.
Grille guards protect the front end against impacts, brush and road debris, built in tubular stainless or steel with model-specific brackets that tie into factory frame mounting points. Because the fit is engineered per vehicle, installation is a bolt-on job that does not require drilling or cutting on most applications.
Rounding out the line, LUVERNE mud guards and mud flaps shield rocker panels, paint and following vehicles from stones and road spray, in widths matched to the tyre and fender they sit behind. Material choice runs through everything the brand does: stainless steel where appearance and corrosion resistance matter most, aluminium where weight is the priority, and mild steel with protective coating where strength and value lead. Customers include contractors, fleet operators, van upfitters and truck owners.

The Curt Tow Guard 15" & 20" (models 255200/255300) is a protective guard that mounts to your vehicle's receiver hitch. It comes completely assembled and is designed to protect your vehicle's bumper and rear end when towing. The product includes a tow guard brace, splash guards (mud flaps), and mounting hardware.
The Tow Guard is designed for vehicles with a 2"-3" receiver hitch. However, special requirements apply to certain vehicles: Dodge Ram 1500 trucks with factory dual exhaust require the heat shield accessory kit #553130 and cutting of the rubber mudguards. Ford Super Duties require cutting a 2" x 6" slot in the driver's side (LH) mud guard for trailer wiring access. The product may not work with aftermarket exhaust systems. Consult the manufacturer or your installer to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
No. The manual states: "THIS PRODUCT MAY NOT WORK WITH AFTERMARKET EXHAUST." If you have an aftermarket exhaust system, contact the manufacturer before purchasing to confirm compatibility.
You will need to purchase the heat shield accessory kit #553130. In addition to this kit, you must cut two holes in the rubber mudguards to allow clearance for the dual exhaust. The manual recommends having this kit on hand before starting installation.
You must cut a 2" x 6" slot in the rubber mud guard on the driver's side (LH) to allow access to trailer wiring. This modification is required before or during installation.
The Tow Guard comes completely assembled and includes: tow guard brace (553125), splash guards/mud flaps in either 15" or 20" sizes (RH and LH), upper and lower mounting angle brackets (553126, 553127), carriage bolts (3/8-16 x 3-3/4), hex nuts, washers, and nylock nuts. See the Service Parts List on page 1 for the complete list of included fasteners and quantities.
Yes. You must provide your own 2"-3" receiver ball mount and hitch pin. These are not included with the Tow Guard. The ball mount is inserted through the 3-1/16" hole in the center of the tow guard brace.
The manual does not specify required tools. However, based on the installation steps, you will likely need basic hand tools to tighten the hex nuts and carriage bolts. If you need to trim the mud flaps to length, you will need either a jig saw or a utility knife.
Yes. The manual explicitly states: "READ INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY AND CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL REQUIRED PARTS (LISTED ON SERVICE PARTS LIST) ARE ON HAND BEFORE STARTING THE INSTALLATION." Verify that you have all parts listed in the Service Parts List before beginning.
1. Insert your 2"-3" receiver ball mount through the 3-1/16" hole in the center of the tow guard brace (item #1). 2. Place the ball mount and tow guard into the receiver of the vehicle and install the hitch pin. 3. Adjust the tow guard assembly so it is not against the bumper. 4. Tighten the two 3/8-16 hex nuts (item #6) on the 3/8-16 x 3-3/4 carriage bolt (item #10) so the upper (item #4) and lower (item #11) mounting angles are tight enough that the assembly cannot move on the square tube.
It is recommended that there be at least 4" to 7" of clearance between the ground and the bottom of the mud flaps (items #2 and #3). You may need to remove the tow guard from the vehicle and trim the flaps to the desired length using either a jig saw or a utility knife. The exact trimming needed depends on your vehicle's ground clearance.
It is recommended that there be at least 4" to 7" of clearance between the ground and the bottom of the mud flaps. If your vehicle has less clearance, you should trim the flaps to achieve this recommended distance.
The Tow Guard fits vehicles with a 2"-3" receiver hitch. Dodge Ram 1500 with factory dual exhaust requires heat shield kit #553130. Ford Super Duties require a 2" x 6" slot cut in the driver's side mud guard. The product may not work with aftermarket exhaust.
