Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. The line covers fifth wheel hitches such as the modular M5, gooseneck couplers including the Goose Box, air-ride and short-bed pin boxes, weight distribution systems with active sway control, and the accessories that connect them, all built to exceed published industry standards.
Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

The M5 RAM 32K LEG (part number 30949) is a leg assembly for a 5th wheel hitch. It connects the M5 Center Section to the truck bed and provides vertical adjustment to ensure proper clearance between the truck bed rail and trailer. The kit includes left and right hand legs, each with front and rear T-Pin/T-Bushing mounting points, plus all fasteners and locking hardware.
Yes. The M5 RAM 32K LEG is designed to work only with the M5 Head and M5 32K Center Section, which are sold separately. The legs attach to the center section structure, and the head then assembles to the center section per the separate M5 Head and Center Section instruction sheet.
A minimum of 6 inches of clearance must be maintained between the truck bed rail and the bottom of the trailer. The center section mounting holes must be selected to ensure this clearance. For detailed guidance on matching the hitch, truck, and trailer, refer to the Guidelines for Matching Hitch, Truck, and Trailer section in the M5 Head and Center Section instruction sheet.
The unit provides 4 inches of vertical adjustment. This allows you to select the appropriate center section mounting holes to achieve the required 6-inch minimum clearance between the truck bed rail and trailer bottom, accounting for variations in truck bed heights.
You will need: 15/16" wrenches, pliers, and a torque wrench. The torque wrench is essential because the 5/8" hex-head bolts must be tightened to exactly 210 ft-lb of torque during final installation and checked every 1,000 miles.
The kit includes: 1 left-hand leg, 1 right-hand leg, 4 bolts (5/8"-11 x 4.25" Grade 8), 4 conical washers (5/8"), 4 nuts (5/8"-11), 4 T-pin locking handles, 4 lynch pins, 4 castle nuts, 8 cotter pins, 2 front T-pins, 2 rear T-pins, and 4 T-bushings. Additional cotter pins are provided for convenience.
Yes, the M5 RAM Legs come ready to install. However, you must verify that each leg has the correct orientation: one small T-Pin/T-Bushing for the front mounting location and one large T-Pin/T-Bushing for the rear. Left and right hand legs are different and must be placed correctly.
The manual states there is a left and right hand leg but does not provide visual identification details beyond showing them in the parts diagram. Inspect the legs carefully and refer to the parts diagram on page 1 to distinguish them before installation.
Using the 4 supplied 5/8" hex-head bolts and conical washers, insert the bolts from the outside of the center section through the bolt holes in the legs and into the inside of the center section. Thread on the 5/8" nuts and conical washers (teeth side toward hitch). Finger-tighten all fasteners initially until final adjustments are made. The legs must be attached at the same height on both sides of the unit.
The conical washers must be installed with the teeth side facing toward the hitch. This applies to both the washers under the bolt heads and the washers under the nuts.
Remove the 4 lynch pins and position the legs over the pucks with the handles in the OPEN position. Once the unit is placed in the pucks, rotate the handles back to the CLOSED position and insert the lynch pins back into the legs to prevent the handles from opening during operation.
If a handle appears too loose and rattles or cannot be closed fully, remove the cotter pin and adjust the castle nut by hand to a position where the handle does not rattle or is able to close. This is normal due to variations in truck underbeds. Once the adjustment is satisfactory, re-insert the cotter pin and bend the end with pliers to hold it in place.
If a handle is too tight to lock, remove the cotter pin and adjust the castle nut by hand to a position where the handle is able to close. This is normal due to variations in truck underbeds. Once the adjustment is satisfactory, re-insert the cotter pin and bend the end with pliers to hold it in place.
Each 5/8" hex-head bolt that connects the legs to the center section must be tightened to 210 ft-lb of torque. This final tightening is performed only after the T-pins are securely held in the underbed structure and the handles are locked in the closed position.
Tighten the 5/8" hex-head bolts to 210 ft-lb of torque only after: (1) the ram leg T-pin handles are locked, (2) the T-pins are securely held in the underbed structure, and (3) all other adjustments (such as castle nut adjustments for loose handles) are complete. Do not apply final torque until these conditions are met.
After tightening the bolts to 210 ft-lb of torque, verify that the hitch is tight to the truck bed by lifting each side of the hitch. There should be no movement or play. If movement is detected, recheck the torque on all bolts.
The lynch pin must be inserted in the properly closed position. The loop of the lynch pin should not be reversed to the other side of the pin. The image in the maintenance section shows the correct orientation: the pin should be fully seated with minimal vertical play.
Before any trip, verify that: (1) cotter pins are undamaged and securely locked, (2) the foot bracket is undamaged and securely locked, (3) the castle nut is undamaged and securely locked, and (4) the lynch pins are securely locked in place with little to no vertical play. Ensure the lynch pin is in the correct orientation (loop not reversed to the other side of the pin).
Every 1,000 miles, check the 5/8" hex bolts that connect the center section to the legs to ensure they are still torqued to 210 ft-lb. This regular inspection helps maintain the integrity of the installation and prevents loosening due to vibration and use.
Failure to follow installation and hitch-up instructions may cause property loss, serious injury, or death. Additionally, do not exceed the towing vehicle manufacturer's recommended vehicle towing capacity. The lynch pins must be securely locked in place during operation to prevent the handles from opening.
The M5 RAM 32K LEG is designed for use with the M5 Head and M5 32K Center Section. It provides 4 inches of vertical adjustment and requires a minimum of 6 inches of clearance between the truck bed rail and trailer. Refer to the Guidelines for Matching Hitch, Truck, and Trailer in the M5 Head and Center Section instruction sheet to confirm fitment for your specific truck and trailer combination.
You will need 15/16" wrenches, pliers, and a torque wrench. The torque wrench is essential because the bolts must be tightened to exactly 210 ft-lb.
Yes, they come ready to install, but you must verify correct orientation: each leg has one small T-Pin/T-Bushing for the front and one large for the rear. Left and right hand legs are different and must be placed correctly.
No drilling is required. The legs attach to existing bolt holes in the center section using the supplied 5/8" hex-head bolts, conical washers, and nuts. The legs position over existing pucks in the truck bed.
The 5/8" hex-head bolts must be tightened to 210 ft-lb of torque. This is performed after all adjustments are complete and the T-pins are securely locked. Check torque every 1,000 miles.
Before any trip, verify that cotter pins, foot bracket, castle nut, and lynch pins are all undamaged and securely locked, with the lynch pins showing little to no vertical play. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Before every trip, check that all locking hardware (cotter pins, castle nut, lynch pins, foot bracket) is secure. Every 1,000 miles, check that the 5/8" bolts are still torqued to 210 ft-lb. For general maintenance of the entire 5th wheel assembly, refer to the M5 Head and Center Section instruction sheet.
A rattling handle is caused by a loose castle nut, which is normal due to variations in truck underbeds. To fix: remove the cotter pin, adjust the castle nut by hand to tighten the fit until the handle no longer rattles, then re-insert and bend the cotter pin with pliers to hold it in place.
The handle cannot close fully because the castle nut is too tight, which is normal due to variations in truck underbeds. To fix: remove the cotter pin, loosen the castle nut by hand until the handle is able to close, then re-insert and bend the cotter pin with pliers to hold it in place.
Movement in the hitch after installation indicates that the 5/8" bolts are not properly torqued to 210 ft-lb. Verify that all four bolts have been tightened to the correct torque specification using a torque wrench. Recheck each bolt individually.
If the 5/8" bolts are found to be loose during a 1,000-mile maintenance check, re-tighten each bolt to 210 ft-lb using a torque wrench. Loose bolts indicate vibration-induced loosening during use. Continue to check torque every 1,000 miles.
If the lynch pin shows more than minimal vertical play, it is not securely locked in the underbed structure. Verify that the pin is fully inserted and in the correct orientation (loop not reversed to the other side of the pin). If play persists, the underbed puck may be damaged or worn, and the truck bed structure should be inspected.
