Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. The line covers fifth wheel hitches such as the modular M5, gooseneck couplers including the Goose Box, air-ride and short-bed pin boxes, weight distribution systems with active sway control, and the accessories that connect them, all built to exceed published industry standards.
Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

Installing a Reese® Elite™ Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Hitch in a Ford Super Duty
The adapter is designed for Chrysler vehicles with an underbed mounting system. The manual does not specify which Chrysler models or years are compatible. Contact Cequent Performance Products at 1-888-521-0510 to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle before purchasing.
The adapter is SAE J2638 rated to 25,000 lb gross trailer weight. However, if you plan to tow trailers larger than 20,000 lbs, you must use the included Heavy Duty bolts (Item 11) instead of standard attachment pins.
You will need a 1½" closed end wrench, needle nose pliers, and a rubber mallet. The manual notes that a wrench is provided with the kit for adjusting the jam nuts.
The kit includes: 1 adapter weldment, 2 rear heavy-duty tee-pin anchors, 2 front tee-pin anchors, 4 anchor bushings, 4 anchor handles, 4 1" jam nuts, 4 cotter pins, 4 end caps, 4 lynch pins, 1 rear-facing REESE label, 4 1/2" bolts and nuts (Heavy Duty), and puck plugs for the truck bed.
The manual requires that a dealer or installer physically demonstrate mounting and unmounting procedures to the end user and have the user demonstrate understanding before use. This suggests professional installation is expected, though the manual does not explicitly state it is required.
1. Remove puck plugs from all 4 pucks in the truck bed and store them. 2. Set the adapter onto the pucks and rotate handles into unlocked position (approximately parallel with the cross tube) until the adapter drops into pucks on all 4 corners. 3. Rotate all 4 handles into locked position with holes in the anchor handles coinciding with the hole in the fore-aft tube. 4. Place lynch pins through the overlapping handle holes on each side. 5. Use industry standard attachment pins to secure the fifth wheel to the adapter, or Heavy Duty bolts if towing over 20,000 lbs.
When installed, the 4 anchor handles must be rotated into the locked position with the holes in the anchor handles coinciding with the hole in the fore-aft tube. The handles should overlap, and lynch pins are then placed through the overlapping handle holes on each side to secure the adapter into the pucks.
1. Pass the anchor bushing through the fore-aft tube, aligning the flat edge in the tube with the flats in the bushing. 2. Thread the 1" jam nut onto the anchor bushing until there is no vertical motion, then turn an additional quarter turn. 3. Pass the tee pin anchor through the anchor bushing and thread the anchor handle onto the tee pin. 4. Pass a cotter pin through the slot in the anchor handle and the hole in the tee pin anchor. 5. Install the end cap with the ribs inserted into the fore-aft tube. Note: the two larger Heavy Duty tee pins go in the rear of the adapter, which has a REESE label facing outward.
1. Remove the lynch pins/locks from the overlapping handle holes on each side of the adapter and store them. 2. Rotate all 4 handles into the unlocked position (parallel with the cross tube). Handles may need to be worked slightly to align anchors with puck holes. 3. Lift each side of the adapter out of the pucks separately. 4. Store the adapter in a dry place where dirt and debris will not get into the anchor assemblies. 5. Press puck plugs into all 4 pucks in the truck bed to keep debris out.
The tee pin bushing needs adjustment. Remove the 4 cotter pins from the anchor handles, unthread the tee pins from the anchor handles, and remove the handles and tee pins. Use a closed-end wrench to loosen the 4 1" jam nuts (do not completely unthread them). Drop the kit into the mounting pucks. While in the correct position, tighten the 4 jam nuts so there is no vertical play between the anchor bushing and fore-aft tube. Finally, reinstall the tee pins and cotter pins in reverse order, or follow the system assembly instructions. Replace the plastic end caps.
To adjust handle tension when locked: 1. Remove the adapter from the pucks. 2. While keeping the handle-to-tee-pin orientation, remove the cotter pin. 3. To loosen tension, rotate the tee pin counterclockwise ½ rotation and replace the cotter pin. 4. To tighten (remove clearance), rotate the tee pin clockwise ½ rotation and replace the cotter pin. If the adapter still will not securely pin or is still too loose, repeat the steps. If it still does not work, the adapter may need further adjustment.
Before each trip or maneuver, check that both the tee pin arms and the pull pin (included in the fifth wheel hitch hardware bag) are in place and have their respective lynch pins locked in place. Also review the operation manuals for both the fifth wheel hitch being used and the corresponding Elite or Signature Series mounting kit.
Lubricate the feet with lithium grease for easier engagement before each trip. Store the adapter in a dry place where dirt and debris will not get into the anchor assemblies when not in use. Press puck plugs into all 4 pucks in the truck bed to keep debris out when the adapter is removed.
Do not reverse the loop of the lynch pin to the other side of the pin. The loop must remain on the correct side. Failure to properly install and pin the handles could result in tow vehicle damage or truck and trailer separation.
The included Heavy Duty bolts (Item 11) must be used instead of standard attachment pins if you are towing a trailer larger than 20,000 lbs. For trailers 20,000 lbs or less, industry standard attachment pins can be used. The Heavy Duty bolts include nylon lock nuts that must be threaded until they contact the cross tube with minimum gap between the cross tube and bolt head.
Never remove the adapter warning decals. If they are damaged, contact Cequent Performance Products, Inc. at 1-888-521-0510 for a free replacement.
Yes, the adapter is pre-assembled to fit the average truck. However, each truck is different, so adjustment may be required before the kit will work best. The manual provides adjustment procedures for tee pin anchors and handle tension.
If a handle cannot be locked by hand, it needs to be adjusted. This is done by removing the cotter pin, unthreading the tee pin from the anchor handle, and using a wrench to loosen the 1" jam nut. Drop the kit into the mounting pucks, tighten the jam nut while in the correct position, then reinstall the tee pin and cotter pin.
The adapter is designed for Chrysler vehicles with an underbed mounting system. Contact Cequent at 1-888-521-0510 to confirm fitment for your specific model and year.
The adapter is SAE J2638 rated to 25,000 lb gross trailer weight. For trailers over 20,000 lbs, you must use the included Heavy Duty bolts instead of standard pins.
You need a 1½" closed end wrench, needle nose pliers, and a rubber mallet. A wrench is provided with the kit.
The manual does not mention drilling or vehicle modifications. The adapter uses the existing Chrysler underbed mounting pucks. Contact the manufacturer at 1-888-521-0510 if you have questions about your specific truck.
Use the Heavy Duty bolts (Item 11) if towing a trailer over 20,000 lbs. For 20,000 lbs or less, standard attachment pins can be used.
Before each trip, verify that both tee pin arms and the pull pin are in place with their lynch pins locked. Review the operation manuals for your fifth wheel hitch and mounting kit.
The tee pin anchors need adjustment. Remove the four cotter pins from the anchor handles, unthread the tee pins, and remove the handles. Use a closed-end wrench to loosen the four 1" jam nuts (do not completely unthread). Drop the kit into the pucks. While in the correct position, tighten all 4 jam nuts until there is no vertical play between the anchor bushing and fore-aft tube. Reinstall the tee pins and cotter pins in reverse order and replace the end caps.
The handle needs adjustment. Remove the cotter pin, unthread the tee pin from the anchor handle, and use a closed-end wrench to loosen the 1" jam nut. Drop the kit into the pucks. While positioned correctly, tighten the jam nut so there is no vertical play. Reinstall the tee pin and cotter pin. If the handle still cannot be locked, repeat the adjustment procedure.
The tee pin bushing needs adjustment. Remove the four cotter pins, unthread the tee pins, and remove the handles. Use a closed-end wrench to loosen the four 1" jam nuts without completely unthreading them. Drop the kit into the pucks. While in the correct position, tighten all 4 jam nuts until there is no vertical play between the anchor bushing and fore-aft tube. Reinstall the tee pins and cotter pins in reverse order and replace the end caps.
Remove the adapter from the pucks. While keeping the handle-to-tee-pin orientation, remove the cotter pin. Rotate the tee pin clockwise ½ rotation to remove clearance, then replace the cotter pin. If the adapter is still too loose, repeat the adjustment. If it still does not securely pin into the underbed mounting kit, the adjustment may need to be repeated or the adapter may require further evaluation.
