Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. The line covers fifth wheel hitches such as the modular M5, gooseneck couplers including the Goose Box, air-ride and short-bed pin boxes, weight distribution systems with active sway control, and the accessories that connect them, all built to exceed published industry standards.
Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

The Reese Rail Kit Mounting Adapter for Attaching Standard Fifth Wheel Hitches (For Use with GM OEM Under-Bed Rail Kits) (Part #RE30899) fits 2016-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD models. The 2024 model year is the last year covered by this part number. For newer models, check for an updated version.
The Reese Rail Kit Mounting Adapter for Attaching Standard Fifth Wheel Hitches (For Use with GM OEM Under-Bed Rail Kits) (Part #RE30899) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The kit is SAE J2638 rated to 27,000 lbs GTW (gross trailer weight) with a pin weight of 6,750 lbs. The gooseneck safety chain attachments are rated to 35,000 lbs.
The kit fits 2016-2019 larger GM puck pattern truck beds and 2020 and newer smaller GM puck pattern truck beds. You must identify which puck pattern your truck has before installation. See Figure 3 in the manual for puck pattern identification.
The adapter is designed to work with a 5th wheel hitch or other product that uses industry standard rails (ISR) for alignment. You must use an ISR-compatible hitch to properly align the mounting rails during installation.
You will need: a 15/16" or 24mm socket or matching wrench, a 1/2" wrench and socket with a torque wrench, and needle nose pliers. The torque wrench is required to tighten the 5/16" bolts to the specified 17 ft·lbs.
The kit includes: 2 mounting rails (left and right), 1 crossmember, 4 tee-pins, 4 tee-pin bushings, 4 M16 × 1.5mm flanged castle nuts, 8 handles (4 old pattern and 4 new pattern), 8 lynch pins, 2 bail pins, 8 bolts (5/16-18 × 1"), 8 washers (5/16"), and 8 nylon lock nuts (5/16-18). You will receive enough hardware for either the old or new GM puck pattern; not all parts will be used.
Yes. Remove the puck plugs from all four pucks in the truck bed and store them for reuse when the adapter is removed. You will reinstall these plugs after removing the adapter to keep debris out of the pucks.
1. Identify your truck's puck pattern (2016-2019 or 2020+). 2. Assemble tee-pins, bushings, handles, and castle nuts on both mounting rails. 3. Install each rail separately in the truck bed with handles in the open position. 4. Install the crossmember at the front of the rails. 5. Tighten all 5/16" bolts until snug. 6. Use a 5th wheel hitch to align the mounting rails. 7. Tighten 5/16" bolts to 17 ft·lbs and castle nuts snug for metal-to-metal contact. 8. Install lynch pins through castle nut slots and tee-pins. 9. Set the adapter onto the pucks with handles unlocked. 10. Rotate all four handles to locked/closed position. 11. Place lynch/bail pins through handle holes.
Installing each rail separately eases the lifting process. The rails are heavy, and keeping them separate makes it easier to position them in the truck bed before connecting them with the crossmember.
Finger-tighten means to tighten the M16 × 1.5mm flanged castle nut by hand only, without tools, until snug. Do not install the lynch pin at this stage. The castle nut will be fully tightened later after final adjustments in the truck bed.
The tee-pin bushing has a larger diameter hole pointing down and a smaller hole pointing up. The larger hole must point downward toward the bottom of the mounting rail.
The 5/16-18 × 1" bolts must be tightened to 17 ft·lbs. First tighten all bolts until snug, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the final specification of 17 ft·lbs.
Tighten the M16 × 1.5mm flanged castle nuts snug for metal-to-metal contact, but the handles must still be able to rotate freely. Do not over-tighten; the handles should move smoothly.
The handles must be in the unlocked/open position when you first set the adapter onto the pucks. After the adapter is positioned, rotate all four handles to the locked/closed position, then install the lynch or bail pins through the handle holes.
The manual warns to avoid fingers getting pinched when setting the adapter onto the pucks. Keep hands and fingers clear of the puck area and handle mechanisms during installation.
The lynch pin must be installed through the slots in the castle nut and through the tee-pin hole. The pin should be in the closed position, with the ring loop not inverted to the other side of the pin. Figure 3 shows the correct closed position.
Before each trip: 1. Lubricate the feet with grease for easier engagement. 2. Check that all handles and the pull pins of the 5th wheel hitch are in place with their respective lynch/bail pins installed. 3. Review the operation instruction manuals for both the 5th wheel hitch and the towing section of your truck manual.
Improper installation of the handles could result in tow vehicle damage or truck and trailer separation during towing. It is critical to follow the assembly and installation instructions exactly, ensure all handles are in the correct position (locked/closed when towing), and verify that all lynch/bail pins are properly installed before towing.
Lubricate the feet of the adapter with grease before each trip to make engagement with the pucks easier. This is a pre-trip maintenance step.
1. Remove the lynch/bail pins from the handle holes on the adapter and store them. 2. Rotate all four handles to the unlocked/open position. Hint: Lift the front of the adapter out of the pucks first and rotate the front handles to close, then repeat with the rear handles. This eases lifting. 3. Store the adapter in a dry place where dirt and debris will not get into the anchor assemblies. 4. Install the puck plugs into all four holes in the truck bed to keep debris out of the pucks.
Handles may have to be worked slightly to align the anchors with the puck holes to remove the adapter. This is normal; gently manipulate the handles until the anchor assemblies align with the puck openings.
Store the adapter in a dry place where dirt and debris will not get into the anchor assemblies. This protects the internal components from corrosion and contamination.
Never remove the warning decals. If they are damaged, contact Horizon Global America, Inc. at 1-800-632-3290 to request replacement decals.
No. The limited lifetime warranty is not transferable. It applies only to the original consumer purchaser. If you sell the adapter, you should pass the manual to the new owner, but the warranty does not transfer to them.
The warranty covers material defects in both material and workmanship, ordinary wear and tear excepted, provided installation and use are in accordance with the product instructions. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage from abuse, neglect, misuse, accident, misapplication, overloading, improper installation, improper maintenance, or unauthorized alterations. Product replacement is the sole remedy.

The kit fits 2016-2019 larger GM puck pattern and 2020+ smaller GM puck pattern truck beds. Identify your truck's puck pattern using Figure 3 in the manual before purchasing.
Tighten all 5/16-18 × 1" bolts to 17 ft·lbs using a torque wrench. First tighten until snug, then apply final torque.
No. The adapter mounts directly to the existing GM puck system in your truck bed. No drilling, welding, or permanent modifications are required.
Lubricate the feet with grease, verify all handles and 5th wheel hitch pull pins are in place with lynch/bail pins installed, and review the operation manuals for both the hitch and your truck.
All four handles must be in the locked/closed position with lynch or bail pins installed through the handle holes before towing.
The castle nuts may be over-tightened. They should be tightened snug for metal-to-metal contact, but the handles must still rotate freely. Loosen the castle nuts slightly until the handles rotate smoothly while maintaining metal-to-metal contact.
The 5/16" bolts may not be tightened to the correct torque specification. Verify that all eight bolts are tightened to exactly 17 ft·lbs using a torque wrench. Also ensure the adapter is properly seated on all four pucks and that the puck plugs were removed before installation.
The handles may not be fully rotated to the locked/closed position. Ensure all four handles are completely rotated to the locked position before attempting to insert the lynch or bail pins. The pin holes should align easily once the handles are fully closed.
Handles may need to be worked slightly to align the anchors with the puck holes. Gently manipulate the handles back and forth until the anchor assemblies align with the puck openings. Follow the removal sequence: remove lynch/bail pins, rotate handles to open position (front first, then rear), and lift carefully.
