Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. The line covers fifth wheel hitches such as the modular M5, gooseneck couplers including the Goose Box, air-ride and short-bed pin boxes, weight distribution systems with active sway control, and the accessories that connect them, all built to exceed published industry standards.
Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

Reese® Revolution™ Wedge Installation - Rockwood®
The Sidewinder Wedge is an accessory for 5th wheel hitches that helps align and secure the coupling between a truck and trailer. It is positioned in the hitch head to improve the connection and ease of hookup.
The Sidewinder Wedge is available as either a model-specific wedge for certain 5th wheel hitches or as a universal wedge. Verify the part number (PCN7559) on your shipping paperwork and confirm that the wedge is named for your specific hitch model or that you have received the universal wedge.
The Sidewinder Wedge comes with two 5/8 bolts and two 5/8 conical washers. Verify that you have both items before installation.
You will need a wrench or socket to tighten the 5/8 bolts and a hammer to tap the wedge forward during positioning. A torque wrench is required to torque the bolts to the final specification of 150 ft. lbs.
No. The truck must be unhooked from the trailer when you first bolt the wedge to the Sidewinder hitch. After the wedge is hand-tightened and positioned, you then hook the truck to the unit to align everything before final torque.
The wedge must be positioned with the narrow end towards the front of the unit and the recessed area facing downward. The recessed area provides clearance for the socket head of the bolts.
1. With the truck unhooked, bolt the wedge to the Sidewinder with the narrow end forward and recessed area down. Install bolts hand tight with conical washers, then slide the wedge to the rearmost position of the slot. 2. Hook the truck to the unit and back straight in. Ensure hitch jaws close, pull forward slightly to align, set brakes, turn off truck, and lower landing gear. 3. Slide the wedge forward to contact the 5th wheel hitch head; tap gently with a hammer if needed. 4. Torque bolts to 150 ft. lbs. 5. Unhook the truck and apply grease to the wedge sides.
The wedge is installed in the rearmost position initially so that it can be slid forward to make contact with the 5th wheel hitch head after the truck is hooked and aligned. This allows proper positioning and engagement before final torque.
The wedge bolts must be torqued to 150 ft. lbs. This is done after the wedge is slid forward to contact the 5th wheel hitch head and the truck, Sidewinder, and 5th wheel are aligned in a straight position.
Yes. A slight tapping on the rear of the wedge with a hammer may help slide it forward to make contact with the 5th wheel hitch head during step 5 of the installation.
Yes. After the truck is unhooked following installation, apply a small amount of grease to the sides of the wedge block. This will allow much easier hookup during future use.
Do not position yourself or others under the trailer kingpin area or between the truck and trailer during coupling or uncoupling. If it is necessary to place any part of your body under the trailer or between truck and trailer: all tires must be blocked in front and behind, trailer landing gear must be resting on firm ground, and the truck must be stationary in park with the emergency brake on.
The wedge is properly positioned when it makes contact with the 5th wheel hitch head. You may need to tap it gently with a hammer to achieve full contact. Once in contact and the truck, Sidewinder, and 5th wheel are aligned in a straight line, the bolts are ready to be torqued to 150 ft. lbs.
Verify the part number (PCN7559) on your shipping paperwork. The wedge is either model-specific for your hitch or a universal wedge—confirm which type you have received.
Two 5/8 bolts and two 5/8 conical washers are included. You will also need a hammer and a torque wrench.
Yes. The truck must be unhooked when you first bolt the wedge to the Sidewinder, then hooked again to align everything before final torque.
Torque the wedge bolts to 150 ft. lbs. after the wedge is slid forward to contact the 5th wheel hitch head and everything is aligned.
Yes. Apply a small amount of grease to the sides of the wedge block after installation to allow easier hookup.
Do not position yourself or others under the trailer kingpin area or between truck and trailer during coupling or uncoupling. If necessary, block all tires front and behind, ensure landing gear rests on firm ground, and keep the truck stationary in park with emergency brake on.
