Reese has designed towing equipment since 1952 and remains a benchmark for heavy-duty towing. The line covers fifth wheel hitches such as the modular M5, gooseneck couplers including the Goose Box, air-ride and short-bed pin boxes, weight distribution systems with active sway control, and the accessories that connect them, all built to exceed published industry standards.
Reese has been pioneering towing performance since 1952, when Margaret Reese asked her husband TJ to stop travel trailers rocking every time somebody walked through them. His answer, the first pair of stabilising jacks, was simple and effective enough to change the RV industry. From that starting point Reese grew into a designer and manufacturer of complete towing systems, and today it anchors the heavy-duty end of the Horizon Global towing portfolio.
Fifth wheel towing is where the brand's engineering is most visible. The M5 fifth wheel hitch uses a modular design that breaks into manageable sections for assembly, with a wider stance, tighter tolerances and a shock absorption system aimed at the jolts that travel up through a truck bed. For owners who would rather tow from a gooseneck coupler and keep the bed clear, the Goose Box 20K replaces the trailer's king pin with a gooseneck connection carrying its own air-ride cushioning.
Pin boxes are a Reese speciality. The 5th Airborne uses air-ride technology to dampen road shock and reduce the chucking motion that makes fifth wheel towing tiring, while the Sidewinder was designed for short-bed pickups, pivoting the connection point so the trailer can turn sharply without the front cap meeting the cab.
For conventional towing, Reese weight distribution systems restore load to the tow vehicle's front axle and control sway. The Pro Round Bar distributes weight evenly while damping sway, and the Pro Dual Cam II uses active cam-based sway control that works harder the stronger the sway force becomes. Complete kits pair bars, head and shank to a rated tongue weight, and dedicated sway control kits can be added to existing setups. The products suit RV owners, horse and livestock haulers and anyone towing near the upper end of a vehicle's rating.

Reese® Sidewinder™ Commercial
The Sidewinder Wedge is an accessory for 5th wheel hitches that helps with coupling and uncoupling. It is positioned between the truck's 5th wheel hitch head and the trailer kingpin area to provide alignment and support during the hookup process.
Verify the part number on the shipping paperwork matches your order. The wedge is either named for your specific 5th wheel hitch model or is a universal wedge. Check that the part number matches before installation.
You need two 5/8 bolts and two 5/8 conical washers. Verify you have these items before beginning installation.
No. The truck must be unhooked from the unit when you initially bolt the wedge to the Sidewinder. The truck is connected later, after the wedge is positioned in the slot.
The narrow end of the wedge must point toward the front of the unit. The recessed area must face downward for socket head clearance to the bolts.
Install the bolts hand tight, including the conical washers. Do not fully torque them yet. After hand-tightening, slide the wedge to the rearmost position of the slot.
1. Hook the truck to the unit and back straight into the Sidewinder, ensuring the hitch jaws close. 2. Pull forward slightly to align the truck, Sidewinder, and 5th wheel in a straight line. 3. Set the brakes, turn off the truck, and lower the trailer landing gear to the ground. 4. Slide the wedge forward until it makes contact with the 5th wheel hitch head. A light tap on the rear of the wedge with a hammer may help.
Torque the wedge bolts to 150 ft. lbs.
Unhook the truck from the unit. Apply a small amount of grease to the sides of the wedge block. This will make future hookups easier.
No. DO NOT position yourself or others under the trailer kingpin area or between the truck and trailer during coupling or uncoupling. Serious injury or death may occur. If it is absolutely necessary to place any part of your body under the trailer or between truck and trailer, all tires MUST be blocked in front and behind, the trailer landing gear MUST be resting on firm ground, and the truck MUST be stationary in park with the emergency brake on.
The manual instructs you to apply a small amount of grease to the sides of the wedge block after initial installation to ease future hookups. A maintenance interval for regreasing is not specified in the manual.
The wedge is either model-specific or universal. Verify the part number on your shipping paperwork matches your hitch model before installation.
You need two 5/8 bolts and two 5/8 conical washers. Verify you have these before starting installation.
No. Unhook the truck first. The truck is hooked later when you position and torque the wedge.
Torque the bolts to 150 ft. lbs. after the wedge is positioned against the 5th wheel hitch head.
Only if absolutely necessary. Block all tires front and behind, ensure the landing gear is on firm ground, and keep the truck stationary in park with the emergency brake on. Never position yourself under the kingpin area during normal coupling or uncoupling.
Yes. Apply a small amount of grease to the sides of the wedge block after installation to ease future hookups.
