Tekonsha trailer brake controller harnesses exist to make connecting your brake controller to your vehicle as easy as possible. These custom two-plug units are specifically designed to be used with any Tekonsha brake controller. The Plug & Play feature on the Tekonsha wiring harnesses makes them easy to install. Simply plug one end of the harness into the back of your desired Tekonsha brake controller and the other end into the port in your vehicle. No cutting, splicing, or taping required.
Each wiring harness is made up of four copper wires wrapped with a braided nylon thread to insulate the wires and protect them against nicks, punctures, and elevated temperatures. The four-pin Plug & Play connectors on each end of the harness are uniquely designed, with one end to fit each vehicle based on make and model year specifications, while the other end plugs easily into any Tekonsha brake controller.
Tekonsha trailer brake controller harnesses are custom designed, giving you plenty of wire to reach between where it is connected to the vehicle and where it connects to the brake controller without stretching or straining the wires. And because Tekonsha is the leader in wiring and electrical, you can relax knowing your connections will be safe and secure, so you can hit the road with confidence! With Tekonsha, Lifes a Journey. Stop Often.

Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

The 20276-037 is designed for Jeep Cherokee. However, your vehicle must have an OEM electric brake control harness connector located underneath the dash, left of the steering column. If your Cherokee is not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package, you may still be able to use this adapter, but you will need to purchase additional fuses and relays separately to complete the output and battery feed circuits. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for compatibility confirmation.
The 20276-037 is an electric trailer brake control wiring adapter that connects your vehicle's electric brake control system to a trailer brake controller. It allows you to control the brakes on an electric trailer from inside your vehicle.
No tools are required for installation of the 20276-037 adapter itself. However, you will need butt connectors to attach the adapter wires to the corresponding wires on your electric brake control system. The manual does not specify the size or quantity of butt connectors needed.
The electric brake control harness connector is located underneath the dash and to the left of the steering column. It will be taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. You are looking for a 4-pin connector that will mate with the connector on the adapter.
1. Locate the vehicle's 4-pin electric brake control harness connector underneath the dash, left of the steering column, taped near the emergency brake pedal. 2. Plug the brake control adapter into this connector. 3. Use butt connectors to attach the wires from the adapter to the corresponding wires on the electric brake control, following the brake control manufacturer's installation instructions. 4. Complete installation per the brake control manufacturer's instructions and mount the unit as directed. 5. Perform test procedures as instructed by the brake control manufacturer.
The adapter connects four circuits: (1) Vehicle stop lamp switch to brake controller (input), (2) Fused trailer brake controller battery feed, (3) Trailer brake controller (output) to the electric trailer brake, and (4) Ground. The adapter housing contains male terminals on the pin side (mating side) that connect to your vehicle's 4-pin connector. You must follow the brake control manufacturer's installation instructions to connect the corresponding wires correctly.
The maximum capacity is 4 axles with 8 brakes at 24 amps. Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or this limit. Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the brake control instruction sheet for additional information.
Yes. Vehicles not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package may require fuses and relays to complete the output and battery feed circuits. These are sold separately. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for the locations where these components should be installed.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the brake control manufacturer's installation instructions for safety procedures before beginning installation.
Wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all vehicle warnings and installation instructions before beginning. Follow all safety precautions during installation.
