Tekonsha trailer brake controller harnesses exist to make connecting your brake controller to your vehicle as easy as possible. These custom two-plug units are specifically designed to be used with any Tekonsha brake controller. The Plug & Play feature on the Tekonsha wiring harnesses makes them easy to install. Simply plug one end of the harness into the back of your desired Tekonsha brake controller and the other end into the port in your vehicle. No cutting, splicing, or taping required.
Each wiring harness is made up of four copper wires wrapped with a braided nylon thread to insulate the wires and protect them against nicks, punctures, and elevated temperatures. The four-pin Plug & Play connectors on each end of the harness are uniquely designed, with one end to fit each vehicle based on make and model year specifications, while the other end plugs easily into any Tekonsha brake controller.
Tekonsha trailer brake controller harnesses are custom designed, giving you plenty of wire to reach between where it is connected to the vehicle and where it connects to the brake controller without stretching or straining the wires. And because Tekonsha is the leader in wiring and electrical, you can relax knowing your connections will be safe and secure, so you can hit the road with confidence! With Tekonsha, Lifes a Journey. Stop Often.

Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the 3072-037 is designed for Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche vehicles. However, the brake control connector location varies by brand: Volkswagen connectors are located either under the dashboard or behind the lower kick panel near the emergency brake pedal; Audi connectors are centered behind the dashboard between the steering column and radio; Porsche connectors are behind the dashboard on the right side of the steering wheel. Consult your vehicle's specific section in the manual for exact location.
You will need: test-probe, trim panel remover, 8mm socket, and Torx 20 driver.
The manual requires that the vehicle be off with the keys removed from the ignition before beginning installation. While the manual does not explicitly state to disconnect the battery, you must always read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions printed on the tow vehicle's battery.
Always wear safety glasses and use all safety precautions during installation. Do not pinch or cut wires when reinstalling trim panels. Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturing rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Always read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions printed on the tow vehicle's battery.
The 3072-037 is an Electric Trailer Brake Control Wiring Adapter designed for Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche vehicles. It connects to the vehicle's electric brake control harness connector to enable trailer brake control functionality. The adapter must be plugged into the vehicle's mating brake control connector, and all brake control manufacturer's installation instructions must be followed after installation.
On Volkswagen vehicles, the brake control plug can be located either under the dashboard or behind the lower kick panel near the emergency brake pedal. If under the dashboard, remove two Torx T20 screws under the lower dash panel and pull down the dash panel to locate the mating 4-pin connector wrapped in grey foam tape. If behind the kick panel, remove the lower kick panel and door sill as needed to locate the mating connector wrapped in grey foam tape.
On Audi vehicles, the brake control connector is located centered behind the dashboard between the steering column and the radio. To access it, locate and remove two 8mm bolts under the dash panel, then remove the two small trim panels on each side of the steering column. The mating brake control connector is wrapped in grey foam tape.
On Porsche vehicles, the brake control mating plug is located behind the dash panel on the right side of the steering wheel, wrapped in grey foam tape.
If the connector is under the dashboard, remove two Torx T20 screws under the lower dash panel. If the connector is behind the kick panel, remove the lower kick panel and door sill as needed. The mating connector in both locations is wrapped in grey foam tape.

Plug the brake control adapter into the vehicle's electric brake control harness connector. After connecting the adapter, follow all brake control manufacturer's installation instructions. Reinstall all plastic trim panels, thresholds, storage covers, floor covering and other items removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires.

Then reinstall all plastic trim panels, thresholds, storage covers, floor covering and other items that were removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
Do not exceed the lower of two values: the towing manufacturing rating stated in your vehicle owner's manual, or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product itself. Check both sources and use the lower value.
Make sure the vehicle is off with the keys removed from the ignition before beginning installation.
A trim panel remover is a tool used to safely remove interior trim panels without damaging them. It is required for this installation because you must remove various dashboard and kick panel trim pieces to access the brake control connector on Volkswagen and Audi vehicles.
