Tekonsha trailer brake controller harnesses exist to make connecting your brake controller to your vehicle as easy as possible. These custom two-plug units are specifically designed to be used with any Tekonsha brake controller. The Plug & Play feature on the Tekonsha wiring harnesses makes them easy to install. Simply plug one end of the harness into the back of your desired Tekonsha brake controller and the other end into the port in your vehicle. No cutting, splicing, or taping required.
Each wiring harness is made up of four copper wires wrapped with a braided nylon thread to insulate the wires and protect them against nicks, punctures, and elevated temperatures. The four-pin Plug & Play connectors on each end of the harness are uniquely designed, with one end to fit each vehicle based on make and model year specifications, while the other end plugs easily into any Tekonsha brake controller.
Tekonsha trailer brake controller harnesses are custom designed, giving you plenty of wire to reach between where it is connected to the vehicle and where it connects to the brake controller without stretching or straining the wires. And because Tekonsha is the leader in wiring and electrical, you can relax knowing your connections will be safe and secure, so you can hit the road with confidence! With Tekonsha, Lifes a Journey. Stop Often.

Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes, the 3031-037 is designed for Toyota Tundra. The installation accesses the center dash panel on the driver's side and connects to the vehicle's electric brake control harness.
Yes, the 3031-037 is designed for Toyota Tacoma. The installation accesses the electric brake control harness located underneath and to the left of the steering column, behind the kick panel.
The adapter can be installed, but vehicles not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package may require additional fuses and relays to complete the output and battery feed circuits. These are sold separately. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for fuse and relay locations.
A trim panel remover is required for Tundra installation. For Tacoma, the harness is accessed behind the kick panel without requiring a trim panel remover tool.
The manual requires that the vehicle be off with keys removed from the ignition before beginning installation. The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected.
Locate the access panel in the center of the dash on the driver's side. Using a trim panel puller, locate the notch in the panel and pry it out and away from the dash carefully to avoid damage. Unplug the housings attaching the panel, being careful not to damage the locking tabs, and set aside.
Locate the vehicle's electric brake control harness underneath and to the left of the steering column, behind the kick panel. It will be taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. You will find a white 10-pin connector that mates with the adapter connector.
The white housing contains male terminals and is the mating connector for the vehicle's brake control harness. For Tundra, carefully pull the housing towards the access panel and plug in the mating white housing from the brake control adapter. For Tacoma, carefully remove tape and plug the mating white housing from the adapter into the vehicle's electric brake control harness connector.
You should first locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing ground stud. If no existing ground point is available, you may drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area before securing the ground wire.
Locate a routing path for the adapter to exit the bottom of the dash. Use a flashlight to shine light up through the bottom of the dash to locate a hole to exit the dash.
After the brake controller is installed, plug in all connectors that were not used back into the original housings and snap the access panel back into place.
The adapter housing contains four male terminals: #5 is Ground, #7 is Trailer Brake, #8 is Fuse Trailer Brake Controller, and #9 is Vehicle Stop Lamp.
The maximum rating is 18 amps for a configuration of 3 axles with 6 brakes. Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or this 18 amp specification. Overloading the circuit can cause fires.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Always read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product before beginning installation. Always read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Always read your vehicle's owner's manual and the brake control instruction sheet for additional information.
