UWS trailer tongue boxes provide unbeatable storage and security for your items wherever you tow your trailer. Each box features a corrosion-resistant aluminum construction, a stainless steel locking system and a patented RigidCore foam-filled lid -- all to keep your equipment and valuables safe, well-organized and easily accessible whenever needed. This trailer tool box can be mounted on a straight-tongue or A-frame trailer, such as a boat trailer or snowmobile trailer. Each UWS trailer tool box is constructed from extra-thick aluminum for increased structural strength. The tub is welded together into a single piece for weather resistance and to easily hold heavy tools and other items. The lid features a patented RigidCore foam-filled design, sandwiched between two aluminum plates. This greatly increases the strength of the lid and helps prevent bending and warping, making operation very smooth. The locking mechanism of the UWS trailer tool box provides excellent security for your items, featuring a stainless steel, key-operated paddle handle. Stainless steel construction supplies the lock with long-lasting corrosion resistance, and the lid also has a MicroSeal gasket, blocking moisture, dust and insects from getting inside and damaging your valuables. The lid also opens a full 90 degrees for easier access, and it is equipped with self-opening struts for convenient operation when your hands are full. UWS trailer boxes are available in multiple sizes to accommodate any storage need. The package includes the trailer tongue box and a key. Mounting hardware is not included. CURT recommends purchasing a minimum of two square 3/8" U-bolts with nuts and washers separately to secure the box to your trailer tongue.
The manual states the box is designed to install on the tongue of a trailer and shows installation examples for both single-tube tongue and Y-style yoke configurations. However, the manual does not specify which trailer tongue styles or dimensions are compatible. Contact CURT at 877.287.8634 or consult your dealer for compatibility with your specific trailer.
You will need: a drill, drill bit set, ratchet, socket set, and tape measure. Mounting hardware (U-bolts, nuts and washers) is not included and must be purchased separately.
CURT recommends a minimum of two square 3/8" U-bolts with nuts and washers. These are not included with the box and must be purchased separately. If you purchase hardware from another supplier, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware; if not provided, refer to the general torque table in the manual.
Carefully place the box in its final mounting location on the trailer tongue. Ensure it is centered left to right on the tongue. Check that the lid will not contact anything when opened, and that the leveling crank (if present) will not hit the box when rotated. Mark the mounting locations on the bottom of the box using proper spacing for the U-bolts before drilling.
Before drilling, ensure your drill locations will not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake lines, fuel lines, electrical wires, or fuel tanks. The manual recommends installing hardware from the underside of the box to help prevent damage. Do not interfere with factory-installed safety equipment.
Drill holes in the front and rear of the box spaced properly for the U-bolts. Holes must be drilled through the aluminum angle in the bottom of the box for added strength. The manual shows drill mark locations for both single-tube tongue and Y-style yoke configurations.
General torque specifications are: M6/1/4" bolt: 3 ft-lbs; M8/5/16" bolt: 7 ft-lbs; M10/3/8" bolt: 16 ft-lbs; M12/7/16" bolt: 28 ft-lbs; 1/2" bolt: 28 ft-lbs. These are general guidelines. If purchasing hardware, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware. Do not exceed these values to prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
Do not use this box for storing or transporting flammables, explosives, hazardous materials or hazardous waste, including gasoline, solvents, gunpowder, dynamite, propane tanks, acetylene tanks, or cutting torches. Danger of explosion. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended capacity.
Ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured before every trip. Periodically re-tighten and inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion and fatigue. With the box installed, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
Use mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Treat or seal all fasteners and exposed metal in any holes drilled in the vehicle to prevent corrosion.
