Each box features a corrosion-resistant aluminum construction, a stainless steel locking system and a patented RigidCore foam-filled lid -- all to keep your equipment and valuables safe, well-organized and easily accessible whenever needed. This trailer tool box can be mounted on a straight-tongue or A-frame trailer, such as a boat trailer or snowmobile trailer. Each UWS trailer tool box is constructed from extra-thick aluminum for increased structural strength. The tub is welded together into a single piece for weather resistance and to easily hold heavy tools and other items. The lid features a patented RigidCore foam-filled design, sandwiched between two aluminum plates. This greatly increases the strength of the lid and helps prevent bending and warping, making operation very smooth. The locking mechanism of the UWS trailer tool box provides excellent security for your items, featuring a stainless steel, key-operated paddle handle. Stainless steel construction supplies the lock with long-lasting corrosion resistance, and the lid also has a MicroSeal gasket, blocking moisture, dust and insects from getting inside and damaging your valuables. The lid also opens a full 90 degrees for easier access, and it is equipped with self-opening struts for convenient operation when your hands are full. The package includes the trailer tongue box and one key. Mounting hardware is not included. CURT recommends purchasing a minimum of two square 3/8" U-bolts with nuts and washers separately to secure the box to your trailer tongue.
The box is designed to install on trailer tongues with either a single-tube tongue or Y-style yoke configuration. The manual shows installation diagrams for both types. Ensure your trailer matches one of these configurations before purchasing.
You will need: a drill, drill bit set, ratchet, socket set, and tape measure. The installation is rated as Easy difficulty.
CURT recommends a minimum of two square 3/8" U-bolts with nuts and washers. These are not included with the box and must be purchased separately. If you purchase different hardware, follow the torque specifications provided with that hardware.
Carefully place the box in its final mounting location. Ensure it is centered left to right on the trailer tongue. Check that the lid will not contact anything when opened, and verify that the trailer's leveling crank (if present) will not hit the box when rotated. Mark the mounting locations on the bottom of the box using proper spacing for your U-bolts before drilling.
Before drilling, ensure your drill locations will not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake lines, fuel lines, electrical wires, or fuel tanks. Hardware should be installed from the underside to help prevent damage. If you are unsure about what is inside your trailer tongue, consult your trailer manufacturer or dealer.
Drill holes in the front and rear of the box, spaced properly for your U-bolts. Holes must be drilled through the aluminum angle in the bottom of the box for added strength. The exact spacing depends on your U-bolt configuration; measure and mark carefully before drilling.
For 3/8" bolts, the torque specification is 16 ft-lbs. This is a general guideline. If you purchase hardware from a different manufacturer, follow the torque specifications provided with that hardware. Use a ratchet and socket set to apply torque, and re-tighten periodically after installation.
Do not use this box for storing or transporting flammables, explosives, hazardous materials or hazardous waste, including gasoline, solvents, gunpowder, dynamite, propane tanks, acetylene tanks, or cutting torches. Doing so creates a danger of explosion.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended capacity. Consult your trailer manufacturer or dealer for the specific weight limit of your trailer tongue and any restrictions on tongue box loading.
Ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured before every trip. Periodically re-tighten and inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion and fatigue. With the tongue box installed, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
Use mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Treat or seal all fasteners and exposed metal in any holes drilled in the vehicle to prevent corrosion.
Periodically re-tighten and inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion and fatigue. Ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured before every trip. The manual does not specify an exact re-torque interval; inspect regularly and tighten as needed.
