Each box features a corrosion-resistant aluminum construction, a stainless steel locking system and a patented RigidCore foam-filled lid -- all to keep your equipment and valuables safe, well-organized and easily accessible whenever needed. This trailer tool box can be mounted on a straight-tongue or A-frame trailer, such as a boat trailer or snowmobile trailer. Each UWS trailer tool box is constructed from extra-thick aluminum for increased structural strength. The tub is welded together into a single piece for weather resistance and to easily hold heavy tools and other items. The lid features a patented RigidCore foam-filled design, sandwiched between two aluminum plates. This greatly increases the strength of the lid and helps prevent bending and warping, making operation very smooth. The locking mechanism of the UWS trailer tool box provides excellent security for your items, featuring a stainless steel, key-operated paddle handle. Stainless steel construction supplies the lock with long-lasting corrosion resistance, and the lid also has a MicroSeal gasket, blocking moisture, dust and insects from getting inside and damaging your valuables. The lid also opens a full 90 degrees for easier access, and it is equipped with self-opening struts for convenient operation when your hands are full. The kit includes the trailer tongue box and one key. Mounting hardware is not included. CURT recommends a minimum of two square 3/8" U-bolts with nuts and washers, which you must purchase separately.
The TBV-34 is designed to install on trailers with single-tube tongues or Y-style yokes. The manual includes installation diagrams for both styles showing drill mark locations.
Before installation, ensure the box is positioned so the leveling crank (if present) will not hit the box when the crank handle is rotated. Position and check this during Step 1 before drilling.
You will need: a drill, drill bit set, ratchet, socket set, and tape measure.
CURT recommends a minimum of two square 3/8" U-bolts with nuts and washers. These are not included in the kit and must be purchased separately.
Carefully place the box in its intended location and ensure: (1) the box is centered left to right on the tongue, (2) the lid will not contact anything when opened, and (3) the leveling crank (if present) will not hit the box when rotated. Mark the mounting locations on the bottom of the box using proper spacing for the U-bolts before drilling.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill holes in the front and rear of the box for the U-bolts. Holes must be drilled through the aluminum angle in the bottom of the box for added strength.
Before drilling, ensure your drill locations will not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake lines, fluid lines, electrical wires, or fuel tanks. Hardware should be installed from the underside to help prevent damage. The manual recommends drilling through the aluminum angle in the bottom of the box for added strength.
General torque guidelines are: M6 bolt 3 ft-lbs, M8 bolt 7 ft-lbs, M10 bolt 16 ft-lbs, M12 bolt 28 ft-lbs. For SAE bolts: 1/4" bolt 3 ft-lbs, 5/16" bolt 7 ft-lbs, 3/8" bolt 16 ft-lbs, 7/16" bolt 20 ft-lbs, 1/2" bolt 28 ft-lbs. These are general guidelines; if purchasing hardware, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware.
Position the U-bolt around the trailer tongue and up through the bottom of the box. Secure with washers and nuts. Tighten according to the torque specifications for your bolt size (refer to the torque table in the manual).
Do not use this product for storing or transporting flammables, explosives, hazardous materials or hazardous waste, including containers of gasoline, solvents, gunpowder, dynamite, propane tanks, acetylene tanks and cutting torches. Danger of explosion.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended capacity. The manual does not specify the box's own weight capacity; consult your vehicle's documentation for load limits.
Ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured. Periodically re-tighten and inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion and fatigue. With the trailer tongue box installed, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
Use mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs. Treat or seal all fasteners and exposed metal in any holes drilled in the vehicle to prevent corrosion.
