Each box features a corrosion-resistant aluminum construction, a stainless steel locking system and a patented RigidCore foam-filled lid -- all to keep your equipment and valuables safe, well-organized and easily accessible whenever needed. This trailer tool box is designed to be mounted on an A-frame trailer tongue. Each UWS trailer tool box is constructed from extra-thick aluminum for increased structural strength. The tub is welded together into a single piece for weather resistance and to easily hold heavy tools and other items. The lid features a patented RigidCore foam-filled design, sandwiched between two aluminum plates. This greatly increases the strength of the lid and helps prevent bending and warping, making operation very smooth. The locking mechanism of the UWS trailer tool box provides excellent security for your items, featuring a stainless steel, key-operated paddle handle. Stainless steel construction supplies the lock with long-lasting corrosion resistance, and the lid also has a MicroSeal gasket, blocking moisture, dust and insects from getting inside and damaging your valuables. The lid also opens a full 90 degrees for easier access, and it is equipped with self-opening struts for convenient operation when your hands are full. The UWS TBV-49 is a storage box designed to install on the tongue of a trailer. It is not designed for storing or transporting flammables, explosives, hazardous materials, gasoline, solvents, gunpowder, dynamite, propane tanks, acetylene tanks, cutting torches, or any other hazardous waste. Use only for the purpose for which it was designed.
The TBV-49 is designed to fit trailers with single-tube tongues or Y-style yokes. The installation method varies slightly depending on your tongue style, as shown in the installation diagrams on page 2.
The TBV-49 includes the trailer tongue box and key. Mounting hardware is not included. CURT recommends a minimum of two square 3/8" U-bolts with nuts and washers, which you must purchase separately.
You will need a drill, drill bit set, ratchet, socket set, and tape measure. A level is also recommended to ensure proper positioning.
Carefully place the box in its intended location on the trailer tongue. Ensure it is centered left to right on the tongue, and that the lid will not contact anything when opened. Also check that the leveling crank on the trailer (if present) will not hit the box when rotated. Mark the mounting locations on the bottom of the box using proper spacing for the U-bolts before drilling.
Drill holes in the front and rear of the box, spaced properly for the U-bolts. Holes must be drilled through the aluminum angle in the bottom of the box for added strength. Drill from the underside to help prevent damage. Before drilling, ensure your drill locations will not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake or fluid lines, electrical wires, fuel tanks, or other critical components.
Position the U-bolts around the trailer tongue and up through the bottom of the drilled holes in the box. Secure with washers and nuts (not included). Ensure all hardware is firmly tightened before use.
General torque specifications are: M6 bolt 3 ft-lbs, M8 bolt 7 ft-lbs, M10 bolt 16 ft-lbs, M12 bolt 28 ft-lbs (metric); 1/4" bolt 3 ft-lbs, 5/16" bolt 7 ft-lbs, 3/8" bolt 16 ft-lbs, 7/16" bolt 20 ft-lbs, 1/2" bolt 28 ft-lbs (SAE). These are general guidelines. If purchasing hardware separately, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware.
Do not use this product for storing or transporting flammables, explosives, hazardous materials or hazardous waste, including gasoline, solvents, gunpowder, dynamite, propane tanks, acetylene tanks, and cutting torches. Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended capacity.
Ensure all knobs, bolts, screws, straps and locks are firmly secured before every trip. Periodically re-tighten and inspect all components for signs of wear, corrosion and fatigue. With the box installed, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
Use mild automotive detergent to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or similar products that may damage the finish. For polished, gloss and other smooth finishes, polish may be used to clear small scratches and scuffs.
Yes. Treat or seal all fasteners and exposed metal in any holes drilled in the vehicle to prevent corrosion. This is important for the longevity of your installation.
