No drilling is required for the standard installation. The tool box is secured using adhesive rail pads attached to the underside of the tool box ends, which adhere to the truck bed rails, and J-hook fasteners that attach under the lip of the bed rail using washers and nuts.
Place the tool box in the truck bed and check clearance with the lid open. Attach the adhesive rail pads to the underside of the tool box ends, then place the tool box on top of the truck bed rails. Use a tape measure to ensure the tool box is centered in the truck bed. Open the lid and verify there is clearance between the open lid and the top and back of the cab.
Place a J-hook under the lip of the bed rail and insert the threaded end up through the slot. Use only one hole and J-hook assembly on each side. Attach with a washer and nut. Snug the hardware but do not fully tighten at first. Repeat on the other side. Re-measure to ensure the tool box is centered and allows lid clearance when open, then fully tighten all hardware.
General torque specifications are: 1/4" bolt = 3 ft-lbs, 5/16" bolt = 7 ft-lbs, 3/8" bolt = 16 ft-lbs, 7/16" bolt = 20 ft-lbs, 1/2" bolt = 28 ft-lbs. These are general guidelines. If purchasing additional hardware, use the torque specifications provided with that hardware. Proper torque helps prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
