It provides a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. The manual specifies that you should locate the 'Tow Lamp (30A)' fuse location in the fuse box to the left of the battery and insert the provided 10-amp fuse. If a 30-amp fuse is already in that location, remove it and replace it with the provided 10-amp fuse. Do not exceed 10 amps, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors behind the removed trim panels. The custom wiring harness has two ends: one with a yellow wire for the driver side and one with a green wire for the passenger side. The white ground wire should be secured to a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector. This can be an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame, or you can drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
The black converter box should be mounted in the spare tire compartment close to the back of the vehicle on the driver side. It is adhered using the provided double-sided tape. Make sure the location does not interfere with anything removed during installation.
On the driver's side of the vehicle, locate the existing factory wiring harness and find the single pin connector. This connector will mate with the connector on the black power wire. Insert the connector into the vehicle's connector, ensuring it is fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
