No. Curt part 55434 is designed only for 4-door models. The manual specifies Chevrolet Cobalt (4DR), Chevrolet Cobalt SS (4DR), Pontiac G5 Pursuit (4DR), and Pontiac G5 Pursuit GT (4DR). Two-door versions are not listed as compatible.
Yes. The installation requires removal of both taillight assemblies. You must remove plastic wing nuts inside the trunk on each side, pull back the carpet to access a second set of wing nuts, then remove taillight screws located outside the vehicle next to the trunk weather seal using a 9/32" socket. Handle the assemblies carefully to avoid damaging the alignment pins, and unplug the taillight connectors before setting them aside.
You will need a 9/32" socket to remove the taillight screws. If a suitable grounding point does not already exist on the vehicle frame, you will need a drill to create a 3/32" hole for the white wire ground connection. The manual provides an eyelet and screw for securing the ground wire.
The harness includes a T-connector with yellow and green wire ends. On the driver's side, plug the T-connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs in place. Route the T-connector end with the green wire down through the opening below the taillight, across the bumper, and up through the opening on the passenger's side. Repeat the connection process on the passenger side using the green wire connector.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided with the harness. Before drilling, verify that no miscellaneous items are hidden behind or under the surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
The ground wire is white. It should be secured to a suitable grounding point on the vehicle's frame using either an existing screw with nut or a new 3/32" hole with the provided eyelet and screw.
After connecting the T-connectors at both taillights, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and secure it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. Secure any loose wires using the cable ties provided with the harness.
Before drilling any hole, verify that miscellaneous items are not hidden behind or under any surface. Drilling without checking could cause damage to hidden components and result in personal injury.
If you need to drill a new grounding point, the hole size is 3/32". The harness includes an eyelet and screw to secure the white ground wire in this hole.
