You need only a Phillips screwdriver. The harness comes with a provided screw for the ground connection, double-sided tape for the converter box, and cable ties for securing loose wires.

Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is the first step in the installation process.
Yes, disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting installation. Reconnect it only after all other steps are complete.
Open the tailgate and remove the two Phillips head screws holding each taillight assembly in place. Carefully remove both taillights without damaging the alignment tabs. The taillight wiring harness connectors will be visible behind the taillight housing.
The harness has four wire colours: red and yellow wires connect to the driver side taillight, green wire connects to the passenger side taillight, and white wire is the ground connection. The black power wire connects to the vehicle battery (see separate CME-PCL-INS sheet for routing).
Separate the vehicle's taillight wiring connectors from the taillight housing. Insert the custom harness end with the red wire between the separated black connectors and the end with the yellow wire between the separated grey connectors on the driver side. Repeat with the green wire on the passenger side. Ensure connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
You may need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground wire screw if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame near the driver side taillight connector. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drilling is optional. You may use an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame for the ground connection, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole if none is available. Always check for hidden items before drilling.
The battery connection must be fuse protected with a maximum of 10 amps. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
If drilling is required, use a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw.
Mount the black converter box on a flat, clean surface that is out of the path of spray and debris from the rear wheels and road. Use the provided double-sided tape to adhere it. Failure to mount the box in a protected area can cause loss of warranty, product failure, overheating and potential fire.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route it to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
The provided 4-flat dust cover helps prevent corrosion of the connector. Install it after completing the wiring harness installation.
After connecting the driver side harness to the taillight connectors, route the harness end with the green wire down through the opening under the driver side taillight, over to the passenger side along the backside of the bumper, and up through the opening under the passenger side taillight.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
After installation, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly.
Use a test light or connect a properly wired trailer to verify proper function.
Before removing the taillight assemblies, open the tailgate. When removing the taillights, take care not to damage the alignment tabs, as these are needed to properly reinstall the assemblies.
When inserting the custom harness connectors, ensure they are fully inserted and that the locking tabs are in place. Take care not to damage the locking tabs when separating the vehicle's taillight connectors from the taillight housing.
The grounding area should be free of rust, dirt and paint. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw.
