Yes, part number 13651 is designed for Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Mercury Mariner vehicles equipped with OEM hitches. Verify your vehicle has an OEM hitch before purchasing, as this hitch is specifically for vehicles with existing factory hitches.
Yes, the Curt 13651 is compatible with Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner vehicles that have OEM hitches. This hitch is designed for all three vehicle models: Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Mercury Mariner.
No. The Curt 13651 is specifically designed for vehicles with OEM hitches. The installation procedure relies on existing weldnuts in the frame rails that are present only on vehicles with factory hitches.
The kit includes: two 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts (10-10272), two 0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP6), two 1/2" conical tooth washers (30-00149), two 1/2-13 UNC hex nuts (20-00171), two 0.250 x 1.00 x 2.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP7), four 9/16" conical tooth washers (30-00164), four M14x2 40mm hex cap screws grade 10.9 (10-10404), and two 1/2" fishwires (1_2 FISHWIRE).
Yes. You must remove the existing electrical bracket by removing two screws and rotating the bracket 180 degrees, repositioning the connector to face toward the rear of the vehicle. This is step 1 of the installation procedure.
Yes. Drilling is required. You must drill the driver side frame rail to allow the spacer and bolt to pass through. The manual indicates this is necessary to enlarge the existing frame rail holes.
Possibly. If your vehicle is equipped with an exhaust vibration dampener that interferes with the side plate, you will need to bend or pry the dampener away from the side plate as needed. The manual notes this may be required but is not necessary for all vehicles.
Follow these steps: (1) Remove four existing bolts from inside frame rails and relocate the electrical bracket by removing two screws and rotating it 180 degrees. (2) Use fishwire to pull the carriage bolts and spacers through the enlarged frame rail holes into position. (3) Raise the hitch into position and install conical tooth washers and hex bolts into existing weldnuts. (4) Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs, then torque all M14 hardware to 126 ft-lbs.
The fishwire is used to pull the carriage bolts and spacers through the previously enlarged frame rail holes and into position. Two 1/2" fishwires are included in the kit for this purpose.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This includes the 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts and hex nuts. The 1/2" hardware must be tightened first, before the M14 hardware.
All M14 hardware must be torqued to 126 ft-lbs. This includes the M14x2 40mm hex cap screws grade 10.9. The M14 hardware must be tightened second, after the 1/2" hardware has been torqued to 110 ft-lbs.
The manual does not provide specific capacity values. However, it states: "DO NOT EXCEED VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED TOWING CAPACITY." You must consult your vehicle's owner manual or the manufacturer for the maximum towing capacity your vehicle supports.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a particular interval, so regular visual inspection before towing is recommended.
Curt Manufacturing warrants this product to be free of defects in material and/or workmanship at the time of retail purchase by the original purchaser. Yes, the Curt 13651 is designed for Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Mercury Mariner vehicles with OEM hitches. Your vehicle must have a factory hitch for this product to fit.
Yes, drilling is required to enlarge the driver side frame rail holes. Exhaust bracket modification may also be needed if an exhaust vibration dampener interferes with the side plate.
Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs first, then torque all M14 hardware to 126 ft-lbs. Tighten in this sequence.
The manual does not specify required tools. Based on the hardware included (carriage bolts, hex nuts, hex cap screws) and the need for drilling, you will need a drill, torque wrench, and standard wrenches or sockets for 1/2" and M14 fasteners. Contact Curt Manufacturing for a complete tool list.
