The kit includes a custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends for driver and passenger side connections, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided screw for grounding, cable ties for securing loose wires, and a 4-flat dust cover to prevent corrosion.
The manual states "Tools Needed: None" are listed. However, you may need a drill with a 3/32" bit if a suitable existing grounding point (screw with nut) is not available near the taillight connectors. A test light or properly wired trailer is required to test the harness after installation.
Open the vehicle tailgate and remove the scuff panel by pulling out on the bottom and then up, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs on the back. Pull back the felt liner to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. The connectors will be similar in appearance to those on the custom wiring harness.
The yellow wire end connects to the driver side taillight connectors. The green wire end connects to the passenger side taillight connectors. Insert each harness end between the separated factory connectors, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connectors, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Drilling is required only if a suitable existing grounding point (screw with nut) is not available near the taillight connectors. If drilling is necessary, use a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole if a suitable existing grounding point is not available. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint before drilling.
Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for the specific lamp load rating of your vehicle.
Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly before testing.
When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll up and store in a convenient, out of the way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation, including the scuff panel and felt liner. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. Test for proper function using a test light or a properly wired trailer.
