Curt part number 56082 is a T-connector trailer wiring harness for the Mazda MX-5 Miata. It includes a black converter box, T-connector with red, green, and yellow wires, a 4-flat wire connector, white ground wire with eyelet and screw, double-sided tape, and cable ties.
You will need a trim puller to remove plastic fasteners from the trunk interior. If you do not have an existing grounding point with a screw and nut in the vehicle's frame, you will also need a drill with a 3/32" bit to create a grounding hole.
Open the trunk and remove the floor cover, trim panels on the driver and passenger sides, the rear scuff panel (by removing plastic fasteners with a trim puller), and the jack storage cover.
Starting on the passenger side, pull back the rear trim panel to reveal the vehicle's taillight wiring harness. Separate the connectors carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the T-connector ends with the red and green wires between the separated connectors. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the driver side using the yellow wire.
Route the T-connector end with the yellow wire out from behind the trim panel across the removed scuff panel to the driver side (after connecting the red and green wires on the passenger side).
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided with the kit.
