Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is a required safety step before accessing any wiring.
The wiring harness connectors are located behind the taillights at positions S3 and S4. You will need to remove the taillight assemblies first by removing the Phillips drive screws holding each in place, then gently pull the assemblies rearward and out, being careful not to break the alignment tabs.
Release the lock on the taillight connector housings and separate them carefully without damaging the housings. On the driver's side, insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger's side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
Route the T-Connector end with the green wire and the 4-flat down through the opening under the taillight and rear bumper fascia. Under the vehicle, route the green wire along the backside of the rear bumper to the passenger's side and up through the opening under the taillight and rear bumper fascia. Route the 4-flat wire to the center of the vehicle. When routing wires, carefully avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank or any other areas that might pinch or break the wire. Secure loose wires with the provided cable ties.
The battery connection must be fuse protected with a maximum of 10 amps. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Do not exceed the tow vehicle lamp load rating or the product load rating, whichever is lower. The product specifications are: Signal Circuits – 3.0 amps per side; Tail/Running Lights – 6.0 amps total. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for your vehicle's lamp load rating.
Mount the black converter module on a flat, clean surface behind the removed taillight or on the vehicle's frame, using the double-sided tape provided. The location must be out of the path of spray and debris from the rear wheels and road. Failure to mount the module in a protected area can cause loss of warranty, product failure including lamp malfunction, overheating and potential fire.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. Clean the ground area from any rust, dirt or paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided.
Drilling may be required if a suitable existing grounding point is not available near the connector. If needed, you will drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under surfaces are not present to avoid damage and personal injury.
Remove the fastener from the rear bumper fascia using a Phillips screwdriver. This fastener is removed to allow routing of the T-Connector end with the green wire and the 4-flat through the opening under the taillight and rear bumper fascia.
A Phillips screwdriver is required to remove the taillight assembly screws and the rear bumper fascia fastener. The manual references a CME-PCL-INS sheet for battery routing details, which should be consulted for any additional tools needed for that portion of the installation.
Yes, you must reinstall all items removed during installation, including the taillight assemblies and the rear bumper fascia fastener.
When routing wires, carefully avoid hot pipes, heat shields, the fuel tank or any other areas that might pinch or break the wire. Use the provided cable ties to secure any loose wires to prevent movement and potential damage.
