The Curt 56062 is a T-Connector wiring harness for the Scion XB that allows you to tap into the vehicle's taillight wiring. It includes a black converter box, T-Connector ends with colour-coded wires (yellow and green), a white ground wire with eyelet, cable ties, and a 4-Flat connector for trailer or accessory use.
The manual confirms the Curt 56062 is designed for the Scion XB. The manual does not specify model years, generations, or any exclusions. Verify fitment with the manufacturer or your retailer before purchase if you have a specific model year in mind.
You will need a 10mm socket to remove the nuts securing the hard plastic panels on each side of the spare tire storage. A drill with a 3/32" bit is required if you do not have a suitable existing screw with nut to use as a grounding point. The manual includes an eyelet and screw for the ground wire, and cable ties for securing loose parts.
Open the rear hatch and temporarily remove: the rear floor covering, foam tire cover, hard plastic panels on each side of the spare tire storage (2 nuts per side, 10mm socket), and the rear interior trim panels on both the driver and passenger sides. These items are reinstalled after the T-Connector installation is complete.
Place the black converter box on the driver's side just below the side trim panel. Route the end with the yellow wire behind the panel. The converter box connects to the vehicle's taillight wiring harness via the T-Connector.
Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness behind the rear interior trim panels on both sides. The harness has connection points matching the T-Connector ends. Carefully separate the existing connectors without breaking the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector ends between the vehicle wiring connectors and lock into place, ensuring the locking tabs are fully inserted without damage.
Route the T-Connector end with the green wire from the driver's side to the passenger's side along the threshold and up behind the passenger-side trim panel. Insert the T end between the vehicle's taillight wiring connectors and lock into place, ensuring the locking tabs are fully inserted without damage.
The white ground wire should be secured to a suitable grounding point near the connector. You can use an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame, or drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided with the kit. The manual recommends locating a grounding point near the connector on the driver's side.
Drilling is not required if you can locate a suitable existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame to use as a grounding point. If no suitable existing fastener is available, you will need to drill a 3/32" hole for the ground wire eyelet. Before drilling, verify that no miscellaneous items are hidden behind or under the surface to avoid damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
Route the black power wire from the battery through the rubber grommet in the tire storage area to the black converter box. The manual references a CME-PCL-INS sheet for detailed routing instructions, which should be included with your kit. Consult that sheet for the specific path and any additional connections required.
The T-Connector has three colour-coded wires: yellow (driver's side), green (passenger's side), and white (ground). The yellow and green wires connect to the taillight wiring harness on their respective sides. The white wire is the ground wire, secured to a grounding point near the connector.
Before drilling any hole, verify that no miscellaneous items are hidden behind or under the surface where you plan to drill. This prevents damage to the vehicle and personal injury. The manual specifically warns about this risk when drilling the 3/32" ground wire hole.
Use the cable ties provided with the kit to secure and bundle loose parts of the T-Connector. This prevents the wires and connectors from moving or becoming damaged during vehicle operation.
Store the 4-Flat connector in the rear cargo area when not in use. This connector is part of the T-Connector assembly and should be kept accessible for future use.
Reinstall all items that were removed during installation: the plastic trim panels, threshold, storage covers, floor covering, and any other items removed to access the wiring. Ensure all panels are properly seated and secured before closing the rear hatch.
