Yes. Heat shield trimming is required. You must remove the three bolts securing each heat shield, remove the shields from the vehicle, trim approximately 4 inches on each side as shown in the heat shield trim diagram, and then reinstall the shields.
Yes. You must remove the three rear-most rubber isolators on each side of the exhaust system to allow the mufflers to pass by the spare tire carrier. These isolators are reinstalled after the hitch installation is complete.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
1. Lower the exhaust by removing the three rear-most rubber isolators on each side and gently spreading the exhaust; support the system to prevent damage. 2. Remove the existing M8 bolt from the bottom of the bumper support on each side and return it to the vehicle owner. 3. Remove the three bolts securing each heat shield, remove the shields, trim as shown, and reinstall. 4. Raise the hitch into position and loosely secure it to the frame rails using M10 hex bolts and conical toothed washers into the existing weld nuts. 5. Secure the hitch to the lower bumper support using M8 hex bolt, 5/16-inch lock washer, and 5/16-inch flat washer on both sides; insert 7/16-inch hex bolts with 3/8-inch flat washers into existing holes and secure with 7/16-inch hex flange nuts. 6. Torque all fasteners to specification. 7. Raise the exhaust into position and reinstall the rubber isolators.
Torque all M8 hardware to 23 ft-lbs, all M10 hardware to 45 ft-lbs, and all 7/16-inch hardware to 70 ft-lbs.
