You will need a panel trim removal tool and a 10mm socket. The manual also indicates that you may need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for a ground screw if a suitable existing screw is not available near the taillight connector.
Yes. Step 2 of the installation requires you to locate the vehicle's battery on the driver side under the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal before proceeding with any other steps.
The vehicle's wiring harness connectors are located in the trunk behind the taillight housings. The driver-side connector is at position P3 (behind driver side taillight housing, inside of trunk) and the passenger-side connector is at position P4 (behind passenger side taillight housing, inside of trunk). You will need to remove the trunk floor coverings and rear scuff panel to access them.
Pull back the felt trunk liner behind each taillight to locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors carefully, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the T-connector end (yellow wire on driver side, green wire on passenger side) between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drilling may be required. Step 8 instructs you to locate a suitable existing grounding point (such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame). If no suitable point is available, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.

First, remove the 10mm bolts and cargo tie downs located on each side of the rear scuff panel. Then remove the scuff panel by pulling out on the bottom and then up.
