Yes, the Curt 56330 is designed for Dodge Journey models with LEDs. It is compatible with SUVs, mini and full-sized vans in this application. If your Journey does not have LED taillights, contact the vehicle manufacturer or Curt to confirm compatibility.
The Curt 56330 has a signal circuit rating of 3.0 amps per side and a tail/running circuit rating of 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a panel trim removal tool. Depending on your vehicle's existing ground points, you may also need a drill with a 3/32" bit if no suitable grounding point is available near the taillight connector.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation.
Open the tailgate and remove the two plastic fasteners holding each taillight assembly in place. Carefully remove both taillights, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Then locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors and separate them from the taillight housing, again being careful not to damage the locking tabs.
Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow, red and brown wires between the separated taillight connectors on the driver side. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the harness end with the green wire.
Drilling may be required. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw.
Route the custom wiring harness end with the green wire under the vehicle, through the opening under the driver side taillight, over to the passenger side along the backside of the bumper, and up through the opening under the passenger side taillight.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet. Refer to that sheet for specific routing and connection instructions.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route it to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Exceeding the product rating of 3.0 amps per side for signal circuits or 6.0 amps total for tail/running circuits can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
