Yes, CURT part 56211 is designed for Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 vehicles. The installation accesses the vehicle's wiring harness connectors in the trunk behind the taillights in positions P1 and P2.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. The battery is located on the driver side under the hood. Reconnect it only after all installation steps are complete.
You must remove the rear scuff panel by removing its plastic fasteners, pull back the felt trunk liner on both sides behind the taillights, remove the plastic wing nuts holding the taillights in place, and then remove the taillights by pulling rearward and out. This gives access to the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors.
Separate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors on the driver side behind the taillight, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Remove the grommet that wires run through. Make a small slit in the grommet and route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire through the slit from the trunk to the taillight. Insert the T-Connector end with yellow wires between the separated connectors, ensuring they are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
Drilling may be required only if a suitable grounding point does not already exist on the vehicle's frame. If you need to create a grounding point, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under surfaces are not present to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole if needed. Clean the ground area of rust and dirt. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided.
Inside the vehicle, locate a flat spot and adhere the black converter box using the double-sided tape provided.
The battery connection must be fuse protected with a maximum of 10 amps. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the tow vehicle's lamp load rating or the product rating, whichever is lower.
Signal circuits are limited to 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are limited to 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these limits or the vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Route the 4-flat wire out from behind the felt trunk liner and to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient out-of-the-way location in the trunk.
Secure any loose wires with the cable ties provided.
Reinstall all items removed during installation, including the taillights, plastic wing nuts, felt trunk liner, and rear scuff panel. Then connect the negative battery terminal.
The T-Connector harness includes a yellow wire end for the driver side, a green wire end for the passenger side, and a white ground wire. The converter box has a black power wire that routes from the battery.
The manual does not specify required tools. However, you will need a drill with a 3/32" bit if a suitable grounding point does not already exist on the vehicle frame. Contact CURT technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for a complete tool list.
Yes, the manual references instruction sheet CME-PCL-INS for routing the black power wire from the battery to the converter box. You must review and follow that instruction sheet as part of the installation process.
