However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Hyundai Veloster (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 1,000 lbs. GTW and 100 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Hyundai Veloster (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, CURT part number 11254 is designed for 2012-Current Hyundai Veloster and Veloster Turbo Hatchback models. The hitch is a weight-carrying receiver hitch with a maximum trailer weight capacity of 1,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 100 lbs.
The CURT 11254 is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 1,000 lbs and tongue weight of 100 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the hitch rating.
You will need: a power drill with a 1/2" drill bit, a torque wrench, a ratchet, M10, 11/16" and 3/4" sockets, an 8" socket extension, and safety glasses. Proper tools will greatly improve the quality of installation and reduce installation time.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, CURT recommends contacting an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. You can call technical support at 877-287-8634 for help.
Yes, drilling is required. You must enlarge the rearmost hole on the passenger side frame rail using a 1/2" drill bit. This is a permanent modification to the vehicle frame.
Fishwire is used to route 7/16" carriage bolts with CM-SP2 spacers through the access holes in the frame rails to secure the hitch. The fishwires act as guides and must be left attached to all 7/16" hardware to prevent loss of hardware inside the frame rail. Three 7/16" fishwires are included with the hitch.
The hitch includes: three 7/16"-14 UNC carriage bolts, 1-1/2" long (part 10-10282); one 1/2"-13 UNC carriage bolt, 2" long (part 10-10288); three 7/16" serrated flange nuts (part 20-00103); one 1/2" serrated flange nut (part 20-00062); three CM-SP2 spacers (.250 x .88 x 2.25"); one CM-SP6 spacer (.250 x 1.00 x 3.00"); and three 7/16" fishwires.
Torque all 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs and all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs. These fasteners should be tightened in step 7 of the installation after the hitch is positioned and all bolts are loosely attached.
1. Remove two M8 nuts holding the heat shield to the frame rail and bend the heat shield down slightly. 2. Remove one rubber plug from each frame rail and enlarge the rearmost hole on the passenger side using a 1/2" drill bit. 3. Fishwire a 7/16" carriage bolt with CM-SP2 spacer through the passenger side access hole into the enlarged hole. 4. Reverse fishwire 7/16" carriage bolts with CM-SP2 spacers into access holes on both sides. 5. Raise the hitch into position using the fishwires as guides, remove fishwires, and loosely attach 7/16" flange nuts. 6. Place a 1/2" carriage bolt with CM-SP6 spacer through the tow loop and secure with a 1/2" flange nut. 7. Torque all 7/16" hardware to 70 ft-lbs and all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs, then reinstall the two M8 nuts.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. The ballmount may become hot due to the center exhaust, so be cautious of heat. Electrical wiring must be kept a minimum of 12" away from exhaust tips. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Yes. CURT recommends the use of 18050 stabilizing straps for all non-trailer (wheel-less) loads. All non-trailer loads applied to this product must be supported by 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection is critical to safe operation and is mentioned as a warranty requirement.
The CURT 11254 is designed for use with ballmount #D-55001 or #45501. Euro mount options are available: #45571 (1 7/8" ball) or #45572 (2" ball).
The rubber plugs removed from each frame rail in step 2 should be returned to the vehicle owner. They are removed to access the frame rail holes but are not reused in the hitch installation.
In step 1, remove the two M8 nuts that hold the heat shield to the frame rail and bend the heat shield down slightly. After the hitch is installed and torqued, reinstall these two M8 nuts in step 7. The hitch will be positioned between the frame rail and the heat shield.
Fasteners should be left loose during the initial positioning of the hitch. In step 5, after raising the hitch into position using the fishwires as guides, loosely attach the 7/16" flange nuts. All fasteners are fully tightened to their specified torque values only in step 7, after the 1/2" carriage bolt is secured through the tow loop.
Electrical wiring must be kept a minimum of 12" away from the exhaust tips. This is necessary because the ballmount may become hot due to the center exhaust.

The manual specifies that part 56153 is designed for the Hyundai Veloster. However, the manual does not confirm compatibility with all model years or trim levels. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 to verify fitment for your specific vehicle year and configuration.
The kit includes a T-Connector harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, double-sided tape, a white ground wire with ring terminal and screw, a 4-flat connector, and cable ties for securing loose wires.
You will need a Phillips screwdriver to remove the taillight assemblies and a drill with a 3/32" bit to create a grounding hole if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available on the vehicle frame. A basic hand tool set is recommended.
Yes. Step 5 requires you to review the CME-PCL-INS instruction sheet to properly route the black power wire from the battery to the converter. This sheet is referenced as a separate document and must be consulted during installation.
Open the rear hatch and remove both taillight assemblies by removing two Phillips screws holding them in place. Carefully pull out each taillight assembly, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs.
Locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connector on the driver side. Separate the connector carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
Drilling is required only if a suitable grounding point is not available. If an existing screw with nut is not found on the vehicle frame near the connector, you must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided.
Drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided in the kit.
Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface will not be damaged. Drilling without checking can cause damage to hidden components and/or personal injury.
Route the 4-flat and the T-Connector end with the green wire down under the vehicle through the opening under the driver side taillight. Route the green wire across to the passenger side along the backside of the bumper and up through the opening under the passenger side taillight. Route the 4-flat wire to the center of the vehicle and secure it in a convenient out-of-the-way location. Secure any loose wires with the cable ties provided.
Adhere the black converter box behind the removed taillight housing of the vehicle using the double-sided tape provided in the kit.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If one is not available, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided in the kit.
Reinstall all items removed during installation, including the taillight assemblies and any other components that were removed to access the wiring harness.
