Yes, the Curt 56269 Custom Wiring Connector is designed for the Acura ILX (passenger car). The manual specifies this as the application and includes vehicle-specific wiring location diagrams for the ILX.
The Curt 56269 is a Custom Wiring Connector that integrates with your vehicle's taillight wiring to provide trailer lighting control. It includes a converter box and a 4-flat connector for trailer hookup, with wiring routed through both the driver and passenger side taillights.
You will need: Phillips screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, wire stripper, wire crimper, cutting tool, and sealant (not provided). The manual also recommends a test light or properly wired trailer to verify function after installation.
The kit includes: a custom wiring harness with yellow, red, green, white and black wires; a black converter box; a ring terminal and provided screw for grounding; double-sided tape for mounting the converter box; cable ties for securing loose wires; and a 4-flat dust cover. Sealant is not provided and must be purchased separately.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning any installation work.
You must open the vehicle trunk and have access to both the driver and passenger side taillight areas. The installation involves removing trunk floor coverings, the scuff panel, side felt liners, and taillight assemblies to access the wiring harness connectors.
Drilling may be required. Step 10 instructs you to locate a suitable grounding point near the connector. If an existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. The manual warns to check for hidden items before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury.
Yes. Step 7 requires you to remove the grommet behind the taillight where the vehicle taillight wiring passes through and cut a slit large enough to route the custom wiring harness through. After routing the harness, Step 9 requires you to reseat the grommet and seal the cut with sealant (not provided).
Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp max fuse. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
The custom wiring harness includes: yellow wire (routed to driver side taillight 2-pin connector), red wire (routed to driver side taillight 3-pin connector), green wire (routed to passenger side taillight), white wire (ground wire secured with ring terminal and provided screw), and black wire (power wire routed from vehicle battery). Refer to the included CME-PCL-INS sheet for complete battery power wire routing details.
The white ground wire is secured using a ring terminal and the provided screw. Step 10 instructs you to locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole if needed. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the ground wire.
Step 11 instructs you to locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. The converter box should be positioned in a convenient location that does not interfere with vehicle operation.
Step 14 instructs that when not in use, the 4-flat connector should be rolled up and stored in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. A 4-flat dust cover is provided to help prevent corrosion.
After installation is complete, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring connector functions properly. The manual emphasizes that testing is required before considering the installation complete.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp max fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This is especially important when drilling the 3/32" pilot hole for the ground screw in Step 10.
Step 8 specifies: route the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire out through the grommet opening and insert it between the separated 2-pin connectors. Then repeat using the red wire between the 3-pin connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the green wire (Step 12).
Step 9 instructs you to reseat the grommet and use sealant (not provided) to seal the cut in the grommet and around all the wires. This prevents water and debris from entering the vehicle through the modified grommet opening.
Step 5 instructs: on the outside of the vehicle, locate and remove the cover on the taillight assembly to gain access to the taillight fasteners. Remove the two screws securing the taillight and gently remove the taillight by pulling it straight back. Step 6 then requires you to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the taillight and separate them from the housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs.
Step 4 instructs: starting on the driver side, remove the fasteners securing the side felt liner in place. Pull back on the felt liner to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. This provides access from inside the trunk to the wiring that will be connected to the custom harness.
Step 2 requires you to open the vehicle trunk and remove all trunk floor coverings and storage trays. Step 3 requires you to remove the scuff panel by pulling out on the bottom and then up, taking care not to damage the alignment tabs located on the back.
Step 14 instructs you to secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. This keeps the wiring organized and prevents interference with vehicle operation.
Step 15 requires you to: reinstall all items removed during installation, reconnect the negative battery terminal, and install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. After reconnecting the battery, test the installation using a test light or properly wired trailer.
Yes, the Curt 56269 Custom Wiring Connector is designed specifically for the Acura ILX passenger car.
