The Curt 56038 has two circuit ratings: Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a panel trim removal tool. The installation also requires drilling a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw, so a drill with a 3/32" bit is necessary. A test light or properly wired trailer is recommended to test the connector after installation.
Open the vehicle tailgate and remove the access door on the driver side rear scuff panel. Open the rear storage door and remove the storage tray and jack storage door. Pull back on the cargo liner to access the junction box where the connector will be installed.
The driver side vehicle wiring connector routes under the trim panel up to the junction box inside the removed driver side rear access door. The custom wiring connector inserts into the receptacle in the junction box.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.

Reinstall all items removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the connector for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer.
