However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Nissan Versa (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Nissan Versa (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The hitch weight is 60 lbs.
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 3/4" socket, 10" socket extension, aviation shears, die grinder, and safety glasses. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce installation time.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
Yes. You must enlarge existing holes on both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle to allow the CM-SP17 spacer to pass into the vehicle frame rail. You will also need to trim the heat shield to allow access to the round hole on the passenger side, and lower the exhaust by removing two exhaust isolators.
1. Lower exhaust by removing two exhaust isolators and remove the rubber plug from the driver side hole. 2. Trim heat shield to access the passenger side round hole. 3. Enlarge holes on both sides to fit the CM-SP17 spacer. 4. Reverse fishwire 1/2" x 1 1/2" carriage bolts and CM-SP17 spacers into the enlarged holes, and install the 1/2" x 1 3/4" carriage bolt and CM-SP4 spacer through the top of the vehicle tow loop. 5. Raise hitch into position and secure with 1/2" hex flange nuts. 6. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 lb-ft. 7. Raise exhaust back and reattach the rubber isolators.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
The parts list includes: two CM-SP17 spacers (.250 x 1.25 x 2.50" square hole), two 1/2" fishwire, one 1/2"-13 UNC 1-3/4" carriage bolt (part 10-10272), one CM-SP4 spacer (.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole), three 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062), and two 1/2"-13 UNC 1-1/2" carriage bolts (part 10-10287).
All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by Curt stabilizing straps part number 18050. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The hitch itself is rated for 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight, but your vehicle's capacity may be lower.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This should be done regularly to maintain the integrity of the installation.

Yes, the Curt 56400 is designed for Nissan Versa sedans. The harness connects to the vehicle's existing taillight wiring connectors on both driver and passenger sides.
The harness is rated for 3.0 amps per side for signal circuits and 6.0 amps total for tail and running circuits. Do not exceed these ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a maximum 10-amp fuse. Exceeding this fuse rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Required tools are: ratchet, ratchet extension, 10mm socket, flat blade screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, wire stripper, wire crimper, and cutting tool. You will also need a drill capable of making a 3/32" pilot hole if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available for the ground wire connection.
The harness includes the custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided screw for grounding, double-sided tape for mounting the converter box, provided sealant for the grommet, cable ties for securing loose wires, and a 4-flat dust cover.
The black converter box should be mounted on a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight using the provided double-sided tape.
When not in use, the 4-flat connector should be rolled up and stored in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. When in use, route it to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire connection. You need to locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing screw is available, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Yes. You must remove the grommet behind the taillight where the vehicle taillight wiring passes through, then cut a slit large enough to route the custom wiring harness through. After routing the harness, reseat the grommet and use the provided sealant to seal the cut and around all wires.
If drilling is necessary, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground wire screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Remove the taillight assembly to access the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire (driver side) or green wire (passenger side) between the separated connectors, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
1. Open the trunk and remove all trunk floor coverings. 2. Remove fasteners securing the rear scuff panel and pull it out at the bottom then up, taking care not to damage alignment tabs. 3. Remove push fasteners from the side felt panel on the driver side and pull out the trunk liner to expose taillight mounting fasteners. 4. On the outside of the vehicle, remove the two nuts holding the taillight assembly and gently pull the taillight rearward, being careful not to damage alignment tabs.
Yes. After completing the driver side installation with the yellow wire, you must repeat steps 3-8 on the passenger side using the harness end with the green wire. This involves removing the passenger side taillight, connecting the green wire to the passenger side taillight connectors, and sealing the grommet.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This is especially important when drilling the 3/32" pilot hole for the ground wire screw.
All installation steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Use the provided sealant to seal the cut in the grommet and around all wires after routing the custom wiring harness through the grommet opening.
Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. This should be done after routing the 4-flat connector and before reinstalling all removed items.
Yes. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. This should be done during the final reinstallation step.
The Curt 56400 is designed for Nissan Versa sedans.
A 10-amp maximum fuse is required for the battery connection. Do not exceed this rating as it can cause overheating and fire.
Drilling may be required if no suitable existing screw with nut is available for the ground wire connection. If drilling is needed, a 3/32" pilot hole is required. Always check for hidden items before drilling.
Required tools include: ratchet, ratchet extension, 10mm socket, flat blade screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, wire stripper, wire crimper, and cutting tool. A drill may be needed for the ground wire pilot hole.
Test for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer. All installation steps must be followed to ensure proper operation.
Signal circuits are rated for 3.0 amps per side; tail and running circuits are rated for 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or the vehicle's lamp load rating.
