Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, panel trim removal tool. A drill with 3/32" bit may be needed for the ground wire screw.
The manual does not explicitly state whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for guidance on safe electrical work procedures.
The custom wiring harness connects to the existing taillight wiring connectors located behind the driver and passenger side taillight housings inside the trunk. The harness end with the yellow wire connects on the driver side (P3), and the harness end with the green wire connects on the passenger side (P4). The connectors insert between the separated factory taillight connectors.
1. Open the trunk and remove all floor coverings. 2. Remove the scuff panel carefully. 3. Remove plastic fasteners securing the felt trunk liner on both sides. 4. On the driver side, separate the factory taillight connectors and insert the harness end with the yellow wire between them. 5. Secure the white ground wire to a clean grounding point using the provided screw. 6. Route the harness end with the green wire to the passenger side and repeat the connector connection. 7. Mount the black converter box in a protected area away from spray and debris using the provided double-sided tape. 8. Route the black power wire from the battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet. 9. Route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use; store rolled up in the trunk when not in use. 10. Secure loose wires with provided cable ties. 11. Reinstall all removed items and install the 4-flat dust cover.
Drilling may be required. The ground wire must be secured to a clean grounding point. If an existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame near the connector, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
3/32" pilot hole, only if an existing screw with nut is not available. The area must be clean, free of rust, dirt and paint.
The harness has three main wires: yellow wire (driver side taillight connection), green wire (passenger side taillight connection), white wire (ground connection), and black wire (power connection from the vehicle battery). The converter box is black. The 4-flat connector is used to connect the trailer when in use.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If one is not available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be clean and free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Mount the black converter box in a flat, clean surface that is out of the path of spray and debris from the rear wheels and road. Use the provided double-sided tape to adhere it. Failure to mount the box in a protected area can cause loss of warranty, product failure, overheating and potential fire.
When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll it up and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Signal circuits are rated for 3.0 amps per side, and tail/running circuits are rated for 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
