Yes, the Curt 56292 Custom Wiring Harness is designed for Ford Edge Titanium and Sport models. It is classified as an SUV wiring harness (category S). Verify your vehicle matches these specifications before purchasing.
The Curt 56292 is a custom wiring harness that connects your vehicle's electrical system to a trailer. It includes signal circuits rated at 3.0 amps per side and tail/running circuits rated at 6.0 amps total. The harness terminates in a 4-flat connector for trailer connection.
You will need: 7mm socket, 10mm socket, 1/4" socket, T-25 Torx bit, ratchet, ratchet extension, panel trim removal tool, wire stripper, crimping tool, side cutter, and cutting tool. A drill may be needed if a suitable grounding point with an existing screw is not available.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is the first step and is essential for safety.
Remove all trunk floor coverings and storage trays to access the installation areas. You will also need to remove the rear scuff panel, panels behind each rear tire, the taillight plastic cover and fastener, and the taillight assembly itself.
The wiring harness (excluding the 4-flat connector and white ground wire) routes through a grommet in the floor pan on the driver side. You will locate this grommet by pulling back the side trim panel in the trunk on the driver side, then route the wires through the exposed hole.
Separate the vehicle taillight connectors from the taillight housing. Remove the white push fastener from the taillight connector and place it on the custom wiring harness housing. Insert the custom harness end (with yellow wire for driver side, green wire for passenger side) between the separated connectors, ensuring they are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Reinstall the connector with the white push fastener.
The black converter box is part of the wiring harness system. It should be adhered to a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight using the provided double-sided tape.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire connection. You should first locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no existing screw is available, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire with the ring terminal and provided screw.
You must make a small slit in the grommet from the center outward to allow the harness wires to pass through. After seating the grommet with the wires passing through, use the provided sealant to seal both where the wires pass through and where the grommet was cut.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
The signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Do not exceed this rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
The tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed this rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
After installation, test for proper function by using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle.
Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
The custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire connects to the driver side taillight. This end is routed behind the fascia to the driver side taillight location.
The custom wiring harness end with the green wire connects to the passenger side taillight. This end is routed along the back bumper to the passenger side taillight location.
The white ground wire is routed separately (not through the floor pan grommet) and secured to a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector using the provided ring terminal and screw. The grounding point should be an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame, or a 3/32" pilot hole drilled in a clean, rust-free area.
The 4-flat connector is the trailer connection point of the wiring harness. It is routed to the center of the vehicle when in use and should be rolled up and stored in a convenient location when not in use. A provided dust cover should be installed to prevent corrosion.
