CURT part 13234 is designed for the Ford Edge. However, the manual does not specify which model years or generations it fits. Contact CURT Manufacturing at 1-877-287-8634 or check www.curtmfg.com to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle year and trim level.
Yes. If your vehicle is equipped with a hands-free lift gate, perform the kick motion on the left or right side of the receiver tube to operate it. The hitch installation does not interfere with this feature.
You will need: 7/32" socket, 3/4" socket, 10mm socket, ratchet, torque wrench, aviation shears, and safety glasses. If your Ford Edge is a Sport model, you will also need a 5.5mm socket and T20 Torx bit to remove exhaust bezels.
The kit includes: 6× 1/2-13 UNC grade 8 carriage bolts (1-1/2" long), 6× 0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP4), 6× 1/2-13 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts, and 4× 1/2" fishwire.
Yes. If you plan to carry non-trailer loads on this hitch, you must use CURT stabilizing straps part 18050. These are not included and are required to support any non-trailer load. Failure to use them will void the product warranty.
No. The manual states 'NO DRILLING REQUIRED'. The hitch uses existing frame mounting holes accessed through the underbody.
Yes. You must lower the exhaust by removing 2 rubber isolators mounted to the muffler. If your Ford Edge is a Sport model, you must also remove the exhaust bezels using a 5.5mm socket and T20 Torx bit. The exhaust is raised back into position after the hitch is installed.
Yes. You must remove the panels from behind the rear wheels by removing 2 hex nuts using a 10mm socket and 2 screws with a 7/32" socket. These panels are trimmed and reinstalled after the hitch is mounted.
You must trim the center underbody panel outer tabs to allow easier mounting of the hitch. You must also trim the removed underbody side panels as shown in the installation diagram to allow for reinstallation. The diagram shows trim dimensions of 1.88" and 0.75" on the center panel, and 7.25" and 3.5" on the side panels. These modifications are permanent.
Possibly. The manual notes that the washer/nut may require trimming of the washer for reinstallation of the underbody panels. Check fit during reassembly and trim if necessary.
Fishwiring is a technique to guide fasteners through difficult-to-access mounting holes. For this hitch: (1) Thread the 1/2" fishwire through 3 CM-SP4 spacers and 3 carriage bolts into the mounting holes on both frame rails. (2) Raise the hitch over the exhaust and thread the fishwires into the mounting holes. (3) Raise the hitch into position, remove the fishwires, and install the 6 supplied 1/2" hex flange nuts. This allows you to position the hitch without having to manually hold fasteners in place.
The hitch side plates will be located between the center underbody panel tabs and the frame rails.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This includes the 6 carriage bolts and 6 hex flange nuts that secure the hitch to the frame.
