The 16-19 Chevrolet Volt CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW621) fits the following vehicles: 2016-2019 Chevrolet Volt. Always verify your specific year, make, and model before ordering.
The 16-19 Chevrolet Volt CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW621) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 56315 is designed for Chevrolet Volt passenger cars. The harness includes wiring routed to both driver and passenger side taillights behind the trunk area.
The harness is rated for Signal Circuits at 3.0 amps per side and Tail/Running Circuits at 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is the first step in the installation process.
You will need: a ratchet, 10mm socket, T-15 Torx bit, Phillips screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, and a cutting tool. Additional items required but not provided include sealant for the grommet.
The harness includes: the custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal and provided screw, cable ties, and a 4-flat dust cover. Sealant is not provided and must be obtained separately.
No, sealant is not provided with the harness. You must obtain sealant separately. It is used in Step 9 to seal the cut made in the grommet and around all wires where the custom wiring harness passes through from inside the cabin to the taillight.
Drilling may be required. In Step 10, you must locate a suitable grounding point near the connector. If an existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The manual warns to check for hidden items before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury.
Yes, cutting is required. In Step 7, you must remove the grommet behind the taillight and cut a slit large enough to route the custom wiring harness through. In Step 9, the cut is then sealed with sealant (not provided).
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. The grounding point should be located near the connector on a suitable spot in the vehicle frame that is free of rust, dirt and paint.
The harness has two ends: one with a yellow wire for the driver side and one with a green wire for the passenger side. Route the yellow wire end out through the grommet opening behind the driver side taillight (Steps 7-8), then repeat the process on the passenger side with the green wire end (Step 12). Route the black power wire from the vehicle battery as shown on the included CME-PCL-INS sheet (Step 13). When not in use, roll up and store the 4-flat connector in a convenient location.
In Step 11, locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Follow this sequence: (1) Remove all trunk floor coverings, (2) Remove fasteners securing trunk storage trays and remove the trays, (3) Remove the scuff panel by pulling out at the bottom then up (taking care not to damage alignment tabs), (4) Remove fasteners securing the side felt liner and pull it back for access, (5) Remove fasteners securing the taillights and gently pull them rearward and out.
In Step 6, locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the taillight and separate them from the housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. In Step 8, insert the custom wiring harness end (yellow for driver side, green for passenger side) between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
In Step 10, locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
When not in use, roll up and store the 4-flat connector in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This is especially important when drilling the 3/32" pilot hole for the ground wire screw in Step 10.
All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
In Step 14, secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
