Yes, the Curt 56354 Custom Wiring Harness is designed for the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback. The harness includes connectors for both driver and passenger side taillights and is routed through the trunk area.
The Curt 56354 is a custom wiring harness that connects to your vehicle's taillight circuits to provide power for trailer lighting. It includes signal circuits rated at 3.0 amps per side and tail/running circuits rated at 6.0 amps total.
You will need: a ratchet, 10mm socket, flat blade screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, T-20 Torx bit, and a cutting tool. A plastic trim panel removal tool is also helpful for removing the taillight housing.
Yes. The first step of installation is to locate the vehicle battery on the driver side under the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal. This must be done before any other work.
You must remove all trunk floor coverings, storage trays, and the spare tire. You will also need to remove the center panel on the rear scuff panel and loosen the top side of the scuff panel to allow the green wire to pass through to the passenger side.
Remove the taillight cover using a small flat screwdriver. Remove the two T-15 torx fasteners from the taillight. Gently pull rearward on the taillight or use a plastic trim panel removal tool to aid removal. Locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors and separate them from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs.
Locate and remove the grommet behind the taillight that the vehicle wiring passes through. Using a cutting tool, cut a small slit in the removed grommet large enough to route the harness wires through. After routing the harness, reseat the grommet and use the provided sealant to seal the cut and around all wires.
Route the harness end with the yellow wire out the trunk through the grommet opening and through the slit in the grommet. Insert the harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Drilling may be required. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable existing point is available, you will need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire.
If an existing screw with nut is not available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before installation.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these product ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Before drilling to create a ground point, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Route the wiring harness end with the green wire to the passenger side behind the rear scuff panels. Repeat steps 4-10 on the passenger side using the harness end with the green wire, following the same process as the driver side installation.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out of the way location. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
