Yes, CURT part number 13398 is designed for 2018-Present Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV SUVs. Verify your vehicle matches this make, model, and year range before purchasing.
The CURT 13398 is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight of 350 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
You will need: a torque wrench, ratchet, 14mm socket, 17mm socket, 3/4" socket, 3/4" boxed end wrench, 3/4" dog bone torque adapter, and safety glasses. A torque wrench is essential because fasteners must be torqued to specific values (48 lb-ft for 10mm fasteners and 110 lb-ft for 1/2" fasteners).
No, drilling is not required to install the CURT 13398 hitch.
No, trimming is not required to install the CURT 13398 hitch.
Some models have a tow loop on the passenger side of the vehicle frame. If present, you must remove it before installing the hitch. Return the tow loop and its bolts to the vehicle owner.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Torque all 10mm fasteners to 48 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure fasteners are tightened to these exact specifications.
1. If present, remove the tow loop on the passenger side of the vehicle frame and return it to the vehicle owner. 2. Place two 1/2" carriage bolts through each 13398-SP plate and install through the frame. 3. Raise the hitch into position and slide the bolts through to support it. Loosely install the four 1/2" hex flange nuts and the two hex bolts with conical washers, ensuring the teeth on the washers are against the hitch mounting plate. 4. Torque all 10mm fasteners to 48 lb-ft and all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft.
The kit includes: four 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts (part 10-10297), four 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062), two M10x1.25 hex cap screws (part 10-10373), two 3/8" split-contact washers (part 30-00148), two 7/16-14 UNC carriage bolts (part 10-10282), two .250 x .88 x 2.25" square hole spacers (part CM-SP2), two 7/16-14 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00103), two 7/16" fishwires (part 7_16 FISHWIRE), and two 13398-SP spacer plates.
The 13398-SP spacer plates are mounting brackets that attach to the vehicle frame. Two 1/2" carriage bolts are placed through each plate and installed through the frame to secure the hitch. The hitch is then raised into position and the bolts slide through to support it.
Fishwiring is a fastening method using wire to secure bolts in place. Some Outlander PHEV models do not have weldnuts in the frame and will require 7/16" carriage bolts and square hole spacers to be fishwired into position with hex flange nuts installed. If your vehicle has weldnuts in the frame, fishwiring is not required.
The teeth on the conical washers must be against the hitch mounting plate. This ensures proper seating and load distribution of the fasteners.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the safety and integrity of the installation.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Although the CURT 13398 is rated for 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight, your Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV may have a lower manufacturer-specified limit. Always consult your vehicle's owner manual for the maximum towing capacity.
Yes, the CURT 13398 complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
