The CURT 13458 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 5,000 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 750 lbs.
You will need: a ratchet, 13mm socket, 3/4" socket, 6" socket extension, torque wrench, aviation shears, and safety glasses. For a complete tools reference guide, visit curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
Yes. The installation requires lowering of the exhaust. You will remove the exhaust hanger bolt on the driver-side frame rail using a 13mm socket and remove the exhaust isolator on the passenger-side frame rail. The exhaust is then reinstalled after the hitch is mounted.
Trimming of the fascia may be applicable depending on your vehicle. Specifically, the untextured portion of the bumper cover may need to be trimmed near the receiver tube if the spacing is too tight. Use aviation shears for this trimming.
The kit includes: 4 carriage bolts (1/2"-13 x 1-1/2", grade 8), 4 square-hole spacers (1/4" x 1" x 3"), 4 serrated-flange nuts (1/2"-13), 4 fishwires (1/2"), and 1 flange bolt (M8-1.25 x 35mm, CL 10.9).
Fishwire is used to guide the carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rails without losing them inside the frame. The coiled end of the fishwire is inserted through the hitch mounting hole and out the access hole, then passed through the spacer and threaded into the bolt coil. The fishwire is then pulled to draw the spacer and bolt through the frame and out the mounting hole.
Two 1/2" carriage bolts and square-hole spacers are fishwired into the rearward most holes in the frame rails. The remaining two carriage bolts and spacers are reverse fishwired into the access holes.
The reverse pull technique is an alternative method when the standard fishwire approach is not suitable. Attach the fishwire to the carriage bolt and slide the spacer onto the fishwire. Push the bolt through the hole followed by the spacer, then pull the bolt back into position so it protrudes from the frame.
Use a 5/8" open end wrench slid up to the rubber isolator, cradling the hanger rod. Place the flat edge of a pry bar between the wrench and the hanger stop or hanger rod. Rotate the pry bar toward the wrench to remove the rubber isolator. Using a lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and rubber isolator helps with removal.
All 1/2" fasteners (the carriage bolts and serrated-flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 lb-ft.
The M8-1.25 x 35mm flange bolt (used to reinstall the exhaust isolator and hanger) must be torqued to 23 lb-ft.
Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The CURT 13458 has a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs and tongue weight of 750 lbs, but your vehicle may have a lower limit that must be respected.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing the CURT 13458.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. To help prevent damage to the product or vehicle, refer to the specified torque specifications (110 lb-ft for 1/2" fasteners and 23 lb-ft for the M8 flange bolt) when checking hardware.
The manual does not specify vehicle year, make, or model compatibility. Contact CURT product support at 877.287.8634 or visit curtmfg.com to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
You need a ratchet, 13mm socket, 3/4" socket, 6" socket extension, torque wrench, aviation shears, and safety glasses. A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
No drilling is required. The installation uses existing frame rail holes and the fishwire technique to guide bolts through the frame without drilling.
Yes. The exhaust must be lowered by removing the hanger bolt on the driver-side and the isolator on the passenger-side, then reinstalled after the hitch is mounted using the provided M8 flange bolt.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft and the M8 flange bolt to 23 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
Gross trailer weight capacity is 5,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity is 750 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. Verify that all fasteners are torqued to specification: 110 lb-ft for 1/2" fasteners and 23 lb-ft for the M8 flange bolt.
