This T-connector adapter is designed for vehicles with tail light wiring harnesses that have connection points on both the left (driver) and right (passenger) sides with connectors matching the T-connector adapter ends. If your vehicle has this dual-connector tail light harness configuration, the adapter will fit. Consult your vehicle's wiring diagram or contact the manufacturer if you are unsure whether your specific vehicle model is compatible.
You will need a drill with a 3/32" drill bit, a screwdriver (to remove and reinstall screws), and a test light or trailer to verify the installation. The eyelet and screw for grounding the white wire are provided with the adapter.
Open the rear door and remove the five screws attaching the threshold panel. Then remove the shade latch screws on each side of the vehicle and carefully pull the plastic trim panels away from the sides to expose the vehicle wiring.
Separate the harness connectors on the left (driver) side of the vehicle, being careful not to break the locking tabs. Insert the T-connector harness with the yellow wire between the harness connectors and lock into place. Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Repeat the process used for the left side: separate the harness connectors on the right (passenger) side, being careful not to break the locking tabs. Insert the T-connector harness with the green wire between the harness connectors and lock into place. Ensure that the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as the vehicle's frame or cross member. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Clean dirt and rustproofing from the area, then drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white wire using the eyelet and screw provided.
Use a 3/32" drill bit to create the grounding hole for the white wire.
Route the yellow wire under the threshold panel. Then secure the threshold and side panels with the screws removed in steps 1 and 2.
Test the installation with a test light or trailer. This will verify that the connections are correct and the adapter is functioning properly.
