However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Chevy Spark (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.

Required tools are: panel removal tool, 7mm socket, 13mm socket, 3/4" socket, ratchet, 9" socket extension, torque wrench, masking tape, rotary tool with 1.125" bit, Phillips head screwdriver, and safety glasses. Proper tools will greatly improve installation quality and reduce installation time.

Professional installation time is 80 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation time is 40 minutes. Actual time may vary depending on your experience level and familiarity with the tools required.
Yes. You must trim the vehicle fascia on the driver's side. Mark a 4.75" × 2.0" rectangle with masking tape, positioned 0.75" away from the edge of the driver's side push button. Use a rotary tool to trim this marked area. This is a permanent modification to the vehicle fascia.
Yes. You must enlarge the rear-most hole on both the driver and passenger side frame rails to allow 1/2" carriage bolts, CM-SP6, and CM-SP12 spacers to pass into the frame rails. The manual references specific dimensions shown on page 1 for these enlarged access holes.
Fishwire is a technique for routing fasteners through tight spaces using the 1/2" × 30" fishwire included in the kit. In steps 5 and 6, you use the enlarged access holes to thread bolts and spacers into the frame rail holes. Step 5 uses standard fishwire; step 6 uses reverse fishwire (pulling from the opposite direction) to secure the rear-most fasteners.
In step 1, remove two push button fasteners and two hex bolts from the vehicle fascia using a 7mm socket. Save these for reinstallation. In step 2, remove one M8 bolt on the passenger side frame rail using a 13mm socket. In step 9, reinstall the push button fasteners and hex bolts removed in step 1. The M8 bolt location is replaced with a new M8-1.25 × 30mm hex bolt in step 8.
Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs. Torque all M8 hardware to 22.9 ft-lbs. These specifications apply to the final tightening in step 10 after all hardware is loosely secured in step 8.
The kit includes: 3× CM-SP12 spacers (0.250" × 1.00" × 2.00"), 2× CM-SP6 spacers (0.250" × 1.00" × 3.00"), 3× 1/2"-13 UNC 1-1/4" bolts (part 10-10278), 2× 1/2"-13 UNC 1-1/2" bolts (part 10-10287), 1× M8×1.25×30mm hex bolt (part 10-10440), 1× 5/16" lock washer, 1× 5/16" flat washer, 5× 1/2"-13 hex flange nuts, and 5× 1/2" × 30" fishwire.
CM-SP12 spacers (0.250" × 2.00") are used with the forward-most bolts: two on the driver side and one on the passenger side (step 5). CM-SP6 spacers (0.250" × 3.00") are used with the rear-most bolts, one in each frame rail (step 6). These spacers are threaded onto the bolts using the fishwire technique through the enlarged access holes.
The M8 bolt secures the hitch to the existing weld nut on the passenger side frame rail. The original M8 bolt is removed in step 2, and a new M8-1.25 × 30mm hex bolt with a 5/16" lock washer and 5/16" flat washer is installed in step 8. This bolt is torqued to 22.9 ft-lbs in step 10.
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners remain tight and all structural components remain in good condition. This ongoing inspection is important for safe towing operation.
