A CURT trailer hitch is the key to pursuing your passions, whether you're taking the family boat out for an afternoon on the water or packing up the mountain bikes for a day on the trails. This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Mazda CX-9 (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.

You will need: ratchet, 10mm socket, 3/4" socket, torque wrench, flathead screwdriver, 6" socket extension, and safety glasses. Exhaust removal pliers are also helpful for removing rubber exhaust hangers.
No. This is a no-drill application. The hitch uses existing holes in the frame rails, so no drilling is required.
Yes. You must remove four rubber exhaust hangers to access the frame rails. The exhaust must be supported during removal. After installation, the exhaust hangers are re-installed.
Yes. The lower trim panel must be removed to access the frame rail attachment points. It is removed by taking out two plastic fasteners with a flathead screwdriver and two hex nuts with a 10mm socket. The trim panel is returned to the owner after installation.
Fishwire is a technique to guide fasteners through access holes in the frame rails without direct line of sight. Step 3 uses fishwire to thread one 1/2" carriage bolt and one CM-SP6 spacer through the access hole into the forward-most hole in each frame rail. Step 4 reverses this process for the rear fasteners. The fishwires are left attached until step 5, when the hitch is raised and the fishwires are removed.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. This includes the four carriage bolts and four hex flange nuts that secure the hitch to the frame rails.
The hitch includes: four 1/2-13 x 1 1/2" grade 8 carriage bolts, four HFN 1213 grade 8 hex flange nuts, four .250 x 1.00 x 3.00" square hole spacers (CM-SP6), and four 1/2" fishwires.
All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for further information on stabilizing straps.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
