This particular kit fits certain years of the Volkswagen Atlas (excluding Cross Sport; see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 6,000 lbs. GTW and 900 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

The CURT 13366 is rated for a maximum trailer weight of 6,000 lbs and a tongue weight of 900 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the hitch rating. Check your vehicle's owner manual for the maximum towing capacity your Atlas can safely handle.
The minimum tongue weight is 20 lbs. This is the lightest load that should be applied to the hitch tongue.
The minimum trailer weight is 40 lbs. This is the lightest trailer that should be towed with this hitch.
You will need: a ratchet, a 3/4" socket, a torque wrench, and safety glasses. Fishwire is also required as part of the installation process. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the installation and reduce the time required.
The kit includes: 4 bolts (part 10-10287, 1/2-13 UNC, 1-1/2", Grade 8, yellow zinc), 4 square hole spacers (CM-SP6, .250 x 1.00 x 3.00"), 4 serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062, 1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8, yellow zinc), and 1/2" x 30" fishwire (qty 4). All fasteners are Grade 8 yellow zinc plated.

1. Use fishwire to thread 2 of the 1/2" carriage bolts and CM-SP6 spacers into the existing holes in each frame rail (both driver and passenger sides). Note: removal of underbody coating from the access hole may be required. 2. Raise the hitch into position and loosely secure it with the 1/2" hex flange nuts. 3. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb-ft using a torque wrench.
Fishwire is a flexible wire tool used to thread the carriage bolts and spacers through the existing holes in the vehicle's frame rails. It is required because the holes are not directly accessible and the fishwire allows you to guide the bolts into position from the access holes on both sides of the frame. The kit includes 1/2" x 30" fishwire for this purpose.
Removal of underbody coating from the access hole may be required. This depends on your specific vehicle and how much coating is present around the access holes on both sides of the frame rails.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This includes the 1/2-13 UNC carriage bolts and the 1/2-13 UNC hex flange nuts. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Non-trailer loads include cargo carriers, bike racks, or other equipment that does not have wheels. Do not apply such loads without the stabilizing straps. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for further information about part 18050.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Although the CURT 13366 is rated for 6,000 lbs trailer weight and 900 lbs tongue weight, your Volkswagen Atlas may have a lower maximum towing capacity. Always check your vehicle's owner manual and follow the manufacturer's towing limits, as exceeding them can damage your vehicle and create a safety hazard.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps prevent loosening of bolts due to vibration and wear, and ensures the hitch remains safe for towing. Check the hitch before each towing trip.
