They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Ford Escape PHEV and Lincoln Corsair PHEV (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Honda HR-V (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. Yes. You must disconnect the negative battery terminal in the engine compartment on the driver side before beginning installation. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery while completing the installation. If the battery was disconnected at the beginning, reconnect the negative battery terminal after all other installation steps are complete and before installing the fuse.
Using a panel trim removal tool or small flathead screwdriver, remove the taillight fastener covers. Use an 8mm socket to remove the taillight fasteners on both sides of the vehicle. Carefully pull the taillight straight back. Locate the vehicle taillight wiring connectors (which will be similar to those on the custom wiring product). Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillight aside in a safe place. Repeat on the other side.
Fish wiring is a method to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole. Insert a fish wire (which can be a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope, or string) through the blind hole, making sure it is long enough to stick out on the other side. Locate the fish wire on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fish wire and pull back up. If the fish wire or harness gets hung up, you may need to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. For the driver side, attach the yellow wire to the fish wire and pull up into the factory taillight connector. For the passenger side, route the green wire over to the rear bumper and repeat the process.
Locate a flat, clean surface on the driver side that is out of the path of spray and debris from the rear wheels and road. Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape or cable ties. Mounting the box in a protected area is critical; failure to do so can cause loss of warranty, product failure, overheating, and potential fire. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Locate a grounding point such as an existing screw or bolt in the frame of the vehicle. If no suitable existing fastener is available, drill a 3/32-inch pilot hole. The area must be free from rust, dirt, and paint; use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint if necessary. Secure the white ground wire with the ring terminal on the existing fastener or with the provided ground screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Route the 4-flat along the rear bumper and mount it near the receiver tube. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. After mounting, install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Drilling may be required only if no suitable existing fastener is available for grounding the white ground wire. In that case, you must drill a 3/32-inch pilot hole in a clean area free from rust, dirt, and paint. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. No other drilling is required for standard installation.

Drill a 3/32-inch pilot hole if an existing fastener is not available for grounding the white ground wire. The area must be free from rust, dirt, and paint.
Yellow wire = left turn signal. Green wire = right turn signal. Red wire = brake signal. Brown wire = taillight (running light). These color-coded wires connect the factory taillight connectors to the custom wiring harness. The white wire is the ground wire with a ring terminal. The black wire is the power wire that connects to the positive battery terminal.
The power wire must be 12 GA (gauge) or larger. Route the 12 GA wire to the vehicle battery location, taking care to avoid any pinch points and hot or rotating components. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect the power wire from sharp edges.
A 15-amp fuse is the maximum allowed. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 15-amp maximum fuse. Install the fuse after all other installation steps are complete. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
Route the black 12 GA power wire to the positive battery terminal using a ring terminal. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before wiring the power wire. The ring terminal must be securely attached to the positive battery terminal. After all other installation steps are complete, install the 15-amp fuse in the fuse holder. Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal (typically noted with red covers or a '+' symbol) as this can cause a ground short, sparks, or electrical shock.

Yes. The exhaust must be lowered during installation. Use an 11mm socket to remove the hose clip from the passenger side exhaust hanger stud, then remove the exhaust hanger bolts on both sides using a 10mm socket. Place jack stands or supports under the exhaust to prevent damage. The exhaust is reinstalled in Step 7.
Yes. The vehicle mounting holes must be enlarged using a die grinder. The hitch is temporarily positioned to align the rearmost mounting holes, then the forwardmost mounting holes are marked and enlarged with a die grinder.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lb using a 3/4" socket.
Yes. The EVAP canister heat shield must be temporarily removed. Using a 10mm socket, remove the three fasteners on the driver side, remove the heat shield, and set it aside. The three 10mm nuts for the EVAP canister mounting bracket should be loosened (not removed) for additional clearance. The heat shield is reinstalled in Step 7.
The kit includes 4 carriage bolts (1/2"-13 x 1-1/4", grade 8), 4 serrated-flange nuts (1/2"-13), 4 square-hole spacers (1/4" x 1" x 2-1/2"), and 4 pieces of 1/2" fishwire.
The installation difficulty is rated as Easy. However, installation difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on installer expertise, vehicle condition, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
The fishwire technique is used to guide the carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rails during mounting. The coiled end of the fishwire is inserted through the hitch mounting hole and out the access hole, passed through the spacer, and threaded into the bolt. The wire is kinked to keep the spacer separate from the bolt, then pulled to guide the hardware through the frame and out the mounting hole. This prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail.
In Step 4, fishwire the 1" x 2-1/2" spacers and 1/2" carriage bolts through the enlarged hole and out the rearmost mounting hole on both sides. Then reverse fishwire the spacers and bolts in and out the enlarged forwardmost hole on both sides of the vehicle. The fishwire technique prevents bolts and spacers from being lost inside the frame rail.
After fishwiring the spacers and bolts in Step 4, raise the hitch into position in Step 5 and secure it using 1/2" flange nuts. Then torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lb using a 3/4" socket in Step 6.
In Step 3, temporarily raise the hitch into position, aligning the rearmost mounting holes of the hitch with the mounting holes in the vehicle frame. Use a paint marker to mark the location of the forwardmost mounting holes. Lower the hitch and enlarge the marked holes using a die grinder.
If contact occurs between the hitch and the exhaust heat shield, use a suitable pry tool to gently reshape the heat shield away from the hitch. Alternatively, as noted in Step 7, you may bend the trim of the EVAP canister heat shield to prevent contact with the hitch if necessary.
In Step 7, secure the EVAP canister that was loosened in Step 2 and reinstall the heat shield using the three 10mm bolts. Raise the exhaust into position and reinstall the bolts securing the exhaust hangers and hose clip that were removed in Step 1. Bend the trim of the EVAP canister heat shield if necessary to prevent contact with the hitch.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. When lowering the exhaust, place jack stands or other supports under the exhaust to prevent damage to the vehicle. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. To help prevent damage to the product or vehicle, refer to the specified torque specifications (110 ft-lb for all 1/2" hardware) when securing hardware.
