Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Ford Escape PHEV and Lincoln Corsair PHEV (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.
CURT custom wiring connectors are the easiest way to outfit your vehicle with a CURT trailer wiring connection. They are built with some of the most advanced technology in the industry, and each one is custom-fitted to work with a specific make and model. Some automotive manufacturers install a special socket on the vehicle to be used for vehicle-to-trailer wiring. Although this special socket is not equipped on every vehicle, a CURT custom wiring connector -- also called a T-connector -- utilizes the socket for simple, stress-free installation. Rather than requiring you to cut, splice and solder into your vehicle's wiring system, the custom wiring connector uses a single OEM-compatible plug and instantly provides a standard, universal vehicle-to-trailer wiring connection, typically in the form a 4-way flat. All CURT custom wiring connectors are made vehicle-specific for the easiest possible installation and the best fit. This particular plug-in connector provides a 4-way flat socket and is designed to be a custom wiring option for certain years of the Ford Escape (factory tow package required; to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware to establish a solid connection. It also comes with a dust cover to keep the connector socket clean when not in use. The Curt 56503 is designed for SUVs and Vans (S-series vehicles). The manual does not list specific vehicle makes, models, or years. The Curt 56503 is a wiring location guide and replacement harness for SUVs and vans. It replaces the factory 4-flat harness with a custom wiring replacement harness to enable proper trailer lighting function. The product includes guidance on seven possible wiring locations (S1–S10) where connections may be made depending on your vehicle.
The factory 4-flat harness is located under the vehicle on the driver side between the rear tire and the rear bumper. This is where you will begin the installation by carefully disconnecting the harness in Step 1.
Installation has two main steps: (1) Locate the factory 4-flat harness under the vehicle on the driver side between the rear tire and the rear bumper, and carefully disconnect it. (2) Remove the old harness and 4-flat connector, then reinstall the custom wiring replacement harness. After installation, test for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer.
Do not lay tools across the positive terminal (typically marked with red covers or a red '+' symbol). This can cause a ground short, resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks. Additionally, do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Test for proper function by using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer. This confirms that the wiring replacement harness is functioning correctly before towing.
Perform periodic inspection of all wires and connections to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. The manual does not specify the inspection interval; consult the manufacturer for recommended maintenance schedules.

Yes. The exhaust must be lowered during installation. Use an 11mm socket to remove the hose clip from the passenger side exhaust hanger stud, then remove the exhaust hanger bolts on both sides using a 10mm socket. Place jack stands or supports under the exhaust to prevent damage. The exhaust is reinstalled in Step 7.
Yes. The vehicle mounting holes must be enlarged using a die grinder. The hitch is temporarily positioned to align the rearmost mounting holes, then the forwardmost mounting holes are marked and enlarged with a die grinder.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lb using a 3/4" socket.
Yes. The EVAP canister heat shield must be temporarily removed. Using a 10mm socket, remove the three fasteners on the driver side, remove the heat shield, and set it aside. The three 10mm nuts for the EVAP canister mounting bracket should be loosened (not removed) for additional clearance. The heat shield is reinstalled in Step 7.
The kit includes 4 carriage bolts (1/2"-13 x 1-1/4", grade 8), 4 serrated-flange nuts (1/2"-13), 4 square-hole spacers (1/4" x 1" x 2-1/2"), and 4 pieces of 1/2" fishwire.
The installation difficulty is rated as Easy. However, installation difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on installer expertise, vehicle condition, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
The fishwire technique is used to guide the carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame rails during mounting. The coiled end of the fishwire is inserted through the hitch mounting hole and out the access hole, passed through the spacer, and threaded into the bolt. The wire is kinked to keep the spacer separate from the bolt, then pulled to guide the hardware through the frame and out the mounting hole. This prevents loss of bolts or spacers inside the frame rail.
In Step 4, fishwire the 1" x 2-1/2" spacers and 1/2" carriage bolts through the enlarged hole and out the rearmost mounting hole on both sides. Then reverse fishwire the spacers and bolts in and out the enlarged forwardmost hole on both sides of the vehicle. The fishwire technique prevents bolts and spacers from being lost inside the frame rail.
After fishwiring the spacers and bolts in Step 4, raise the hitch into position in Step 5 and secure it using 1/2" flange nuts. Then torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lb using a 3/4" socket in Step 6.
In Step 3, temporarily raise the hitch into position, aligning the rearmost mounting holes of the hitch with the mounting holes in the vehicle frame. Use a paint marker to mark the location of the forwardmost mounting holes. Lower the hitch and enlarge the marked holes using a die grinder.
If contact occurs between the hitch and the exhaust heat shield, use a suitable pry tool to gently reshape the heat shield away from the hitch. Alternatively, as noted in Step 7, you may bend the trim of the EVAP canister heat shield to prevent contact with the hitch if necessary.
In Step 7, secure the EVAP canister that was loosened in Step 2 and reinstall the heat shield using the three 10mm bolts. Raise the exhaust into position and reinstall the bolts securing the exhaust hangers and hose clip that were removed in Step 1. Bend the trim of the EVAP canister heat shield if necessary to prevent contact with the hitch.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. When lowering the exhaust, place jack stands or other supports under the exhaust to prevent damage to the vehicle. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch.
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. To help prevent damage to the product or vehicle, refer to the specified torque specifications (110 ft-lb for all 1/2" hardware) when securing hardware.
