Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom Class 3 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular Class 3 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Nissan Kicks (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This Class 3 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a Class 3 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT Class 3 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each Class 3 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Nissan Kicks (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. Step 1 is to remove the seven (7) fasteners from the bottom of the center insert on the rear bumper.
Carefully push in the tabs from the back of the panel while pushing the panel away from the vehicle. This is Step 3 of the installation process.
Using a 13mm socket, remove the bottom bolt and middle bolt located towards the center of each bumper beam support. Also remove the top bolt toward the center of the vehicle on the passenger side only. This is Step 4.
Raise the hitch into position and loosely secure it with the M8 bolts and conical-toothed washers. Do not fully tighten at this stage. This is Step 5.
Torque the M8 bolts to 23 ft-lbs using a torque wrench.
A 13mm socket is required to torque the M8-1.25 x 30mm bolts to 23 ft-lbs.
After torquing the M8 hardware to 23 ft-lbs, reinstall the lower center panel by following Steps 1–3 in reverse order.

Open the rear hatch and locate the bolts holding the taillights in place. Remove the two 10mm bolts on each light housing (four bolts total, two per side). Then pull the taillight outwards from the side of the vehicle. Once removed, separate the connector from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillight aside and repeat on the other side.
Fish wiring is a technique to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole. Insert the fish wire (which can be a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope, or string) through the blind hole and locate it on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fish wire and pull back up. If the fish wire gets hung up, push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. Make sure the fish wire is long enough to stick out on both sides of the hole.
On the driver side, fish wire down the taillight cavity to underneath the vehicle. Attach the housing with the yellow wire to the fish wire and pull it back up to the taillight opening. Connect the custom harness end with the yellow wire between the taillight harness and the factory connectors. Mount the taillight and secure with bolts. Route the green wire across the bumper to the passenger side and repeat the fish wiring process for the green wire connector. After both harnesses are connected, secure loose wires with provided cable ties.
