These receiver hitches are made to handle most light-duty towing applications and offer a custom fit for your vehicle. Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Nissan Rogue (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 525 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Nissan Rogue (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. The Curt 56459 is designed for SUVs and Vans with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. It is not compatible with vehicles using 12-volt positive ground systems. Check your vehicle's owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer to confirm your electrical system type before purchasing.
The Curt 56459 is a powered converter lead that converts a vehicle's factory taillight signals to a 4-flat trailer connector. It allows you to tow a trailer with a standard 4-flat connector on vehicles that do not have factory trailer wiring. The converter box processes the vehicle's turn signal and brake light signals and routes them to the trailer connector.
Required tools are: ratchet, cutting tool, 10mm socket, wire crimper, socket extension, wire stripper, flathead screwdriver, electrical tape, and panel trim removal tool. You will also need a fishwire or equivalent (such as a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string) to route wires through the vehicle body.

Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle's battery in the engine compartment on the driver side and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery while completing the installation. Do not reconnect the battery until all wiring is complete and you are ready to test the system.
Open the vehicle hatch. Use a panel trim removal tool or your fingers to loosen the fastener trim. Use a 10mm socket to loosen the taillight fasteners on both sides. Remove each taillight by pulling outward from the side of the vehicle. Separate the connector from the taillight housing carefully, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillights aside.
Fishwiring is a method to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole in the vehicle body. Insert a fishwire (which can be a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string) through the blind hole and locate it on the other side. Use tape to secure the harness to the fishwire and pull back up. If the fishwire gets hung up, you may need to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. Make sure the fishwire is long enough to stick out on both sides.
Starting from the driver side, fishwire down between the body of the vehicle from under the vehicle. Attach the housing with the yellow wire to the fishwire and pull up to the taillight opening. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Reinstall the taillight into the mount.
Route the green wire to the bumper on the passenger side. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. Route a fishwire down between the body and the bumper cover. From under the vehicle, locate and attach the fishwire to the housing with the green wire. Pull the wire back up and attach to the factory harness. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a flat spot under the vehicle or between the body and the bumper cover. Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. Ensure the surface is clean and dry for proper adhesion.
The converter uses the following wire colors: Yellow for left turn signal, Green for right turn signal, Red for brake signal, Brown for taillight (running lights), White for ground, and Black for positive battery power. The white ground wire has a ring terminal that attaches to the vehicle body. The black power wire connects to the positive battery terminal through a 10-amp fuse holder.
Route a 12 GA (or larger) black power wire from the converter to the vehicle battery location, taking care to avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a new grommet, or use silicone to protect the wire from sharp edges. Connect the ring terminal of the black power wire to the positive (+) battery terminal. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the provided cable ties. Install the 10-amp fuse holder in the circuit after all other steps are complete.
Attach the ring terminal of the white ground wire to the vehicle body using the screw provided. If necessary, drill a 3/32" hole to mount the ground wire. Ensure the connection is secure and the ground wire makes solid contact with the vehicle chassis.
Signal circuits (turn signals) are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running light circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
Use a 10-amp maximum fuse in the fuse holder. The fuse holder is included with the kit. Install the fuse after all other installation steps are complete. Do not use a fuse larger than 10 amps, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
Drill a 3/32" hole if necessary to mount the white ground wire ring terminal to the vehicle body. A screw is provided for this connection.
The Curt 56459 is designed for use only on 12-volt negative ground systems. It is not compatible with 12-volt positive ground systems or any other electrical configuration. The converter box is mounted using provided double-sided tape. If it is not staying in place, ensure the mounting surface is clean and dry before applying the tape. Remove the converter box, clean the surface thoroughly, and reapply the double-sided tape, pressing firmly to ensure good adhesion. Allow adequate time for the adhesive to set before operating the system.

Yes. The CURT 12202 installation requires the use of existing weldnuts on the vehicle frame. The hitch bolts into these factory-installed weldnuts on both the driver-side and passenger-side frame rails. There are three weldnuts on each side; the middle weldnut is not used in the hitch installation.

The CURT 12202 includes four hex bolts (M12-1.25 x 40mm, CL10.9) and four conical-toothed washers (1/2"). These bolts and washers are installed into the existing weldnuts on the vehicle frame.
Yes. Before raising the hitch into position, remove the two push fasteners located in the center of the rear bumper fascia. Set them aside—you will reinstall them after the hitch is bolted in place.
1. Remove the two push fasteners from the center of the rear bumper fascia and set aside. 2. Raise the hitch into position by sliding the driver side over the tailpipe first, then pull the rear bumper fascia rearward for clearance. 3. Align the hitch side plates with the rearmost and forward-most holes in the vehicle frame on both sides. 4. Loosely install the four hex bolts and conical-toothed washers into the existing weldnuts. 5. Torque all M12 fasteners to 86 lb-ft. 6. Reinstall the two push fasteners removed in Step 1.
The conical-toothed washers must be oriented with the toothed side facing the hitch side plate. This orientation is shown in the Assembly diagram on page 2.
To remove debris from the weldnuts, spray lubricant or compressed air into the hole. For heavy debris, use a wire brush. Take care not to damage the threads.
All M12 fasteners must be torqued to 86 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightening and prevent damage to the product or vehicle.
