1. Lift the vehicle and support the frame with safety stands, leaving enough room to drop the axle low enough to set the air spring assemblies between the frame and axle. 2. Twist and pull the jounce bumpers to remove them from the mounting cups. 3. Strike a line on the jounce bumper bracket beside and above the bottom of the frame using a china marker. 4. Use a die grinder or angle grinder with a cut-off wheel to cut along the line on the bracket, stopping slightly short of the frame. Do not cut into the frame. 5. Remove sharp edges with the cut-off wheel and paint the exposed surfaces. 6. Space up the brake line holder on the inside of the left-side frame by removing the stock bolt, inserting the spacer (F) between the holder and bracket, and attaching the line holder back using the M8-1.25 x 35 hex flange bolt (H), tightened securely.
Drilling is required only for the Schrader valve installation. You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole in your chosen location for the Schrader valve, which can be inside the fuel tank filler door, inside rear wheel wells, or in the license plate or rear bumper area. Cutting of the jounce bumper bracket using a die grinder or angle grinder with a cut-off wheel is also required.
Yes. You must use a die grinder or angle grinder with a cut-off wheel to cut the jounce bumper bracket along a marked line, stopping slightly short of the frame. Do not cut into the frame. After cutting, remove sharp edges with the cut-off wheel. It may be necessary to grind down some weld if the weld travels under your cut on the bracket and frame. After grinding, clean and paint the exposed surfaces of the remaining jounce bumper bracket left on the frame.
The 3/8"-24 x 3/4" flat-head socket cap screws (K) that attach the roll plate, left-hand lower bracket (A1), and right-hand lower bracket (A2) must be torqued to no more than 20 lb.-ft. (27 Nm).
All lower hardware (the 3/8"-16 carriage bolts and serrated flange nuts connecting the assemblies to the axle) must be torqued to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm).
The frame brace hardware and the upper bracket to brace hardware must both be torqued to 31 lb.-ft. (42 Nm). The upper bracket/air spring hardware (which cannot be accessed with a torque wrench due to space constraints) should be snugged only and not over-tightened.
The LoadLifter 5000 air springs have a minimum recommended air pressure of 5 PSI (0.34 BAR) and a maximum air pressure of 100 PSI (7 BAR). Never inflate beyond 100 PSI (7 BAR). The actual air pressure needed is dependent on load and gross vehicle weight rating.
Keep at least 6 inches (152 mm) of clearance between all air lines and the exhaust system. Avoid sharp bends and edges. The minimum bend radius for the air line is 1 inch (25 mm). If a heat shield was included in the kit, install it. If there is no heat shield but one is required, contact Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
It is recommended that the air line be routed along the top of the frame, forward of the axle, then down to the fitting. Use zip ties to secure the air line to fixed points along the chassis. Do not pinch or kink the air line. Leave at least 2 inches (51 mm) of slack in the air line to allow for any movement that might pull on the air line. The minimum bend radius for the air line is 1 inch (25 mm). On the passenger's (right) side, install the air line thermal sleeve over the air line before inserting into the fitting. Secure the air lines to the upper coil spring mount with zip ties.
Make clean, square cuts with a razor blade or hose cutter when cutting the air line. Do not use scissors or wire cutters.
