Just add air when towing or hauling a heavy load, and reduce air pressure when unloaded, they are fully adjustable for a great ride. Air Lift air springs eliminate sag, sway, and bottoming out. They are made with rugged, durable components for long, reliable service. Air Lift 1000 kits fit many popular customer vehicles with coil springs. Jack up the rear of the vehicle or raise it on a hoist. Support the frame with safety stands. Lower the axle or raise the body until the suspension is fully extended. Observe tension on the brake line and ABS line—do not strain them.
Yes, drilling is required in two locations. First, if your upper spring seat has a plastic plug covering the hole, you must drill a 9/16-inch (14.5 mm) hole through the lower spring seat using the template provided on page 13 as a guide. Second, you must drill a 5/16-inch hole for the inflation valve in the location you select (gas cap well, trunk, rear bumper, fender flange, or behind the license plate).
Drill a 9/16-inch (14.5 mm) hole. Use the template provided on page 13 of the manual. Cut out the circle that best fits into the lower spring seat pocket, paste it onto the lower spring seat with a dab of grease, and use the cross as a guide to center punch and drill the hole.
Drill a 5/16-inch hole for the inflation valve. The valve can be mounted in the gas cap well, trunk, rear bumper, fender flange, or behind the license plate. The rubber washer included in the kit serves as an outside weather seal.
First, remove the plastic cap from the barbed stem and exhaust the air from the air spring by rolling it up toward the stem. Replace the cap to hold the flat shape. Insert the flattened air spring into the coil spring through the lowest opening with the stem pointed in the direction determined by your upper spring seat configuration (stem down if a plug covers the hole, or up if the hole is open and accessible). Push the air spring up within the coil by hand or with a blunt instrument such as a spoon-type tire iron. When fully inside, remove the cap and allow the air spring to assume its molded shape.
For all air line connections: (1) Slide the air line clamp onto the air line. (2) Push the air line over the barbed stem, covering all the barbs. (3) Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbed section. Repeat this procedure for each connection point.
Maintain at least 8 inches of clearance between the air line and the exhaust system to prevent the air line from melting. Leave sufficient air line slack to prevent any strain on the fitting during axle motions. Route the air line along the cross member and either the lower control arm or the upper spring seat to the air spring. Attach the air line with zip ties. If the hose is routed through the top (open hole configuration), route it through the holes above the modular frame to gain access to the upper spring mount hole.
Use a hose cutter, razor blade, or sharp knife to cut the air line. Make a clean, square cut to ensure against leaks. Do not use wire cutters or scissors, as these tools may flatten or crimp the air line, causing it to leak around the O-ring seal inside the elbow fitting.
Select a location that will be protected and accessible with an air hose. Options include the gas cap well, trunk, rear bumper, fender flange, or behind the license plate. Drill a 5/16-inch hole at your chosen location and mount the valve with the rubber washer serving as an outside weather seal.
After reconnecting the sway bar and lower shock mounts, check for clearance issues. If you used the plastic plug configuration (step 2), raise and lower the suspension while viewing the hose/barbed cylinder interface. If the hose/barb rubs on the lower spring seat, grind that area out for more clearance. The hose/barb area cannot rub on the lower spring seat. Then raise the axle or lower the vehicle body until the air springs lightly touch the upper and lower spring seats.
Inflate the air springs to 35 PSI (2.4 BAR) initially. Test for air leaks by applying a soap and water solution to all valve cores, fittings and connections. Recheck air pressure after 24 hours. A 2-4 PSI (0.14-0.28 BAR) loss after initial installation is normal. If the loss is more than 5 PSI (0.34 BAR), retest for leaks. It may be necessary to leave maximum pressure in the system overnight for the first few nights to stretch the cylinder out inside the coil spring.

Never inflate beyond the maximum air pressure. Failure to maintain correct minimum pressure, or pressure proportional to load, will void the warranty.
No. Installing air springs will not change the weight ratings (GAWR, GCWR and/or GVWR) of your vehicle. The installation of this kit does not alter the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating or payload. Check your vehicle's owner's manual and do not exceed the maximum load listed for your vehicle. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Check the air pressure weekly. Always maintain at least the recommended minimum air pressure (5 PSI) to prevent the air spring from being pinched. Never inflate beyond the maximum air pressure (35 PSI).
If the air springs are properly installed and maintained, they can last indefinitely.
Yes, the vehicle can be lifted on a hoist for short-term service work such as tire rotation or oil changes. However, if the vehicle will be on the hoist for a prolonged period of time, support the axle with jack stands to take the tension off the air springs.
No. Air pressure can be adjusted with any type of compressor as long as it can produce sufficient pressure to service the springs. Even a bicycle tire pump can be used, though it requires more effort.
Inflate the air spring to 30 PSI (2.07 BAR). Spray all connections and the inflation valves with a soapy water solution. Spot leaks easily by looking for bubbles in the soapy water. After the test, deflate the springs to the minimum pressure required to restore the system to normal ride height, but do not deflate lower than 5 PSI (0.34 BAR). Check the air pressure again after 24 hours. A 2-4 PSI (0.14-0.28 BAR) loss after initial installation is normal. Retest for leaks if the loss is more than 5 PSI (0.34 BAR).
First, leak test the air line connections, the threaded connection of the elbow into the air spring, and the inflation valves using a soapy water solution. Check for dirt debris in the valve core and tighten the valve core with a valve core tool if needed. Inspect the air lines to ensure none are pinched—loosen or replace tie straps if too tight. Inspect the air line for holes, cracks, kinks or folds and replace or reroute as needed. If the problem persists, it may be caused by a failed air spring. Check the valve core by tightening it with a valve core tool. If the problem persists, check the air line by removing it from the barbed fitting. Cut the air line off a few inches in front of the fitting and use pliers or vice grips to pull or twist the air line off the fitting. Do not cut off the air line completely, as this will usually nick the barb and render the fitting useless. If these steps do not resolve the problem, call Air Lift customer service at (800) 248-0892.
Inflate your air springs to 35 PSI (2.41 BAR) before adding the payload. This will allow the air cylinder to properly mesh with the coil spring. After the vehicle is loaded, adjust your air pressure down to level the vehicle and for ride comfort.
When carrying a payload, increase the tire inflation pressure in proportion to any overload condition. Air Lift recommends a 2 PSI (0.14 BAR) increase above normal for each 100 pounds (45 kg) of additional load on the axle. Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
Always add air to springs in small quantities, checking the pressure frequently. Air springs require less air volume than a tire and inflate quickly.
If it is suspected that the air springs have bottomed out, increase the pressure. Bottoming out, along with failure to maintain correct minimum pressure, over-extension or rubbing against another component, will void the warranty.
Yes. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle. Loads such as water, fuel, and appliances will cause the vehicle to be heavier on one side. As much as a 50 PSI (3.45 BAR) difference is not uncommon.
If the vehicle's headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, it is not level. Raise the air pressure to correct either of these problems and level the vehicle.
