No. Installing air springs does not change the GAWR, GCWR or GVWR of your vehicle. You must not exceed your vehicle's maximum GVWR as stated in your vehicle owner's manual and on the Safety Compliance Certification Label. Exceeding the GVWR is dangerous and voids the Air Lift warranty.
Yes. The coil springs must be removed for installation. You will need to disconnect the shock absorbers at the lower shock mount, detach the panhard rod at the lower axle mount, and disconnect any rear anti-sway bar links if present. Carefully lower the axle until the coil springs are free. Do not strain brake lines; disconnect brake line brackets if necessary.
Two holes must be drilled: (1) a 9/16" hole in the lower spring seat for hose access to the cylinder (can also be ground with a die grinder), and (2) a 5/16" (8mm) hole for the inflation valve. The inflation valve hole location depends on your chosen routing option (tee or dual air line) and can be drilled in the gas cap well, trunk, rear bumper, fender flange, or behind the license plate.
Yes. There is a large jounce bumper at the top of the coil spring that must be trimmed as specified in Figure 3 of the manual. This is a required modification to allow the air spring to fit properly.
Required tools are: a hoist or floor jack, 2 safety stands, safety glasses, an air compressor or compressed air source, and a spray bottle with a dish soap and water solution (for leak testing). Pliers are also needed to compress air line clamps during hose connections.
Tee air line routing uses a single tee fitting with one inflation valve and is best for vehicles loaded evenly from side to side. Dual air line routing uses two separate inflation valves (one for each side) and should only be used if the vehicle will have unbalanced side-to-side loading. Choose the option that matches your intended use before beginning installation.
Keep air lines at least 8 inches from the exhaust system to prevent melting. Leave sufficient slack in the air lines to prevent strain on fittings during axle motion. Route air lines along the frame, cross member and upper spring seat. Use zip ties to secure the lines. Do not allow lines to be pinched by zip ties that are too tight.
Use this procedure for all air line connections: (1) Slide the air line clamp onto the air line, (2) Push the air line over the barbed stem until all barbs are covered, (3) Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbed section. Repeat for each connection. Do not cut the air line completely when removing it from a fitting, as this will nick the barb and render the fitting useless.
For tee air line routing, mount the inflation valve in the gas cap well, trunk, rear bumper, fender flange, or behind the license plate. For dual air line routing, mount each valve in the rocker panel flange or rear bumper. Choose a location that is protected and accessible with an air hose. Drill a 5/16" (8mm) hole and mount with the rubber washer on the outside for weather sealing.
Inflate the air springs to 30 PSI (2 BAR) after installation. This initial pressure allows the air cylinder to properly mesh with the coil spring. After the vehicle is loaded, adjust the air pressure down to level the vehicle and for ride comfort. Never inflate beyond 35 PSI (2.4 BAR).

If the vehicle's headlights are shining into the trees or the vehicle is leaning to one side, it is not level. Raise the air pressure to correct this problem and level the vehicle. It may be necessary to maintain different pressures on each side of the vehicle if loads such as water, fuel, or appliances cause the vehicle to be heavier on one side.
A rough or harsh ride may be due to either too much pressure or not enough. Try different pressures to determine the best ride comfort. If the vehicle rocks and rolls, adjust the air pressure to reduce movement. If the front of the vehicle dives while braking, increase the pressure. Stability should be the priority, meaning you may need to sacrifice a perfectly level and comfortable ride for safety.
Bottoming out occurs when the air springs compress fully and lose their support. If suspected, increase the air pressure. Failure to prevent bottoming out will void the warranty. Sufficient air pressure should be maintained to help prevent bottoming out on large bumps and potholes.

If the front of the vehicle dives while braking, increase the air pressure in the front air bags if equipped. If the rear is diving, increase the pressure in the rear air springs. Increasing pressure improves stability and reduces dive during braking.
