The Air Lift 1000 Kit 60829 is designed for Jeep Wrangler JL vehicles. However, the installation varies by trim level: Sport models use one red spacer (C), Sahara models use one black spacer (B) with the boss pointing toward the air spring, and Rubicon models require both spacers (B and C) snapped together with spacer C on the bottom. Confirm your trim level before installation to ensure you use the correct spacer configuration.
Each air spring in the Air Lift 1000 Kit provides up to 1,000 pounds (454 kg) of load-leveling support. The kit includes two air springs, so the total system provides up to 2,000 pounds of combined support. Each sleeve is rated at a maximum of 35 PSI (2.4 BAR).
Required tools include: ratchet, pliers, standard and metric sockets (regular and deep-well), a heavy-duty drill with a very sharp 5/16" drill bit, hose cutter or sharp knife, hoist or jack, two safety stands, safety glasses, air compressor or compressed air source, and a spray bottle with dish soap and water solution. A vise or other appropriate tool may be required to snap the spacers together on Rubicon models.
The kit includes: two air springs (46127), two black spacers (09116), two red spacers (09447), 15 feet of air line (20937), six zip ties (10466), two valve caps (21230), four 5/16" hex nuts (21233), two rubber washers (21234), two star washers (18411), two M8 flat washers (18501), one tee fitting (21236), two Schrader valves (21455), and six air line clamps (10638).
Jack up the rear of the vehicle or raise it on a hoist and support the frame with safety stands. Lower the axle or raise the body until the springs are completely extended. This allows full access to the coil springs for air spring insertion. Do not proceed with installation until the suspension is fully extended.
Remove the plastic cap from the barbed stem on the air spring. Exhaust the air by rolling the spring up toward the stem, then replace the cap to hold it flat. Fold the air spring into a hot dog bun shape. Insert the flattened air spring into the coil spring through the side with the stem pointing up. Once fully inside the coil, remove the cap and allow the air spring to assume its as-molded shape. Push it down to the bottom of the coil spring so the stem can be accessed for attaching the hose.
For Rubicon models, use both the black spacer (B) and red spacer (C) snapped together. Spacer C must be on the bottom. The spacers must snap together until you hear an audible snap, with the boss on spacer B snapping into the holes of spacer C. The raised casting marks on spacer C will face away from spacer B. A vise or other appropriate tool may be required to snap them together.
For Sahara models, use only the black spacer (B). It must be installed with the boss pointing toward the air spring.
For Sport models, use only the red spacer (C). It does not matter which way it is installed.
Cut the air line into two equal lengths. Install an air line clamp on one end of both air lines. Feed the air lines through the top of the spring seat and down and out the side of the coil spring. Insert the hose with the clamp through the spacer(s), then push the spacer(s) through the side of the coil spring. Push the spacer up to the top of the coil spring and push the air line over the barbs on the air spring, covering all the barbs. Using pliers, install the air line clamp over the barbed stem.
While the suspension is still hanging, slide the air line thermal heat shield over the air line on the driver's (left) side and push it toward the air spring until it is over the top of the upper spring seat. Additionally, attach the metal heat shield to the exhaust where it is closest to the driver's (left) side air spring, bending it so there is at least 1/2" (13 mm) of dead air space between the shield and exhaust.
Zip tie both sides of the air lines to the frame just behind the coil spring mounts. Route the hose to the back of the vehicle or the side depending on where you want to mount the Schrader valves. Leave sufficient air line slack to prevent any strain on the fitting during axle motions. Maintain at least 6" (152 mm) clearance from the exhaust system to the air line to prevent the air line from melting.
A single-path air line installation is recommended for vehicles with even weight distribution. It uses a tee fitting to combine air lines from both air springs before routing to the Schrader valve. A dual-path installation is used when weight varies from side to side and unequal pressures are needed to level the load. For dual-path, eliminate the tee fitting and route separate air lines for both air springs directly to individual Schrader valves.
Slide the air line clamp onto the air line. Push the air line and clamp over the barbed stem so the air line covers all the barbs. Compress the ears on the air line clamp with pliers and slide it forward to fully cover the barbs. This procedure applies to all air line connections, including the tee fitting and Schrader valve.
Yes. You must drill a 5/16" (8 mm) hole for the Schrader valve. The valve is mounted on the vehicle body or bumper using this hole. Select a location that is protected and accessible with an air hose. Install the air line on the Schrader valve first, then mount the valve using the rubber washer as an outside weather seal.
After raising the suspension or lowering the body completely and removing the safety stands, inflate the air springs to 5 PSI (0.34 BAR). This is the minimum recommended pressure. Do not inflate the air springs before reading the Maintenance and Use Guidelines and the User Guide included with the kit.
